Chapter 8 - The Confrontation

Marcus swallowed hard, fighting desperately to regain his composure as the other captains stared at him with mounting suspicion.

"Luca... you're... you're supposed to be resting," Marcus stammered, his polished veneer cracking down the middle. "The doctors said your paralysis was permanent!"

"The doctors you hired, Marcus?" Luca raised an eyebrow, leaning slightly heavier on his cane as he maintained his vertical stance. "The ones who administered an organophosphate neurotoxin to my morning coffee twelve years ago? Those doctors?"

A collective gasp rippled through the room. Frankie Moretti slammed his hands on the table, standing up so fast his chair screeched against the floor. "Poisoned?! What the hell is he talking about, Marcus?!"

"It's a lie!" Marcus shouted, jumping to his feet, his face flushing a deep, mottled crimson. "He's losing his mind! The old man is hallucinating!"

"Am I?" Luca asked calmly.

He raised his hand and snapped his fingers twice.

The side doors opened, and Callahan stepped into the room carrying a massive stack of physical folders, followed by Elena Harper, who carried a secure laptop connected to a portable projector.

Elena didn't look down. She walked straight to the digital display screen mounted on the wall, plugged in the thumb drive she had retrieved from Marcus’s office the night before, and hit play.

Instantly, glowing financial ledgers, encrypted wire transfer receipts to Swiss bank accounts, and digital transcripts of Marcus’s communications with the Marcone syndicate flashed across the screen in vivid, inescapable detail.

"Exhibit A," Luca said, gesturing toward the screen with his cane. "The wire transfer receipt from twelve years ago, signed by Marcus Vance, detailing the purchase and administration of the neurotoxin that put me in a wheelchair."

"Exhibit B," Callahan chimed in, tossing physical copies of the Marcone deal onto the table in front of Tony Rossi. "Marcus’s secret agreement to hand over our eastern shipping lanes in exchange for backing his illegal coup."

The dining hall exploded into chaos.

Salvatore drew his sidearm instantly, leveling the barrel directly at Marcus’s chest. Frankie Moretti lunged across the table, grabbing Marcus by the lapels of his expensive Italian suit and slamming him back into his chair with bone-racking force.

"You sold us out to New York?!" Frankie roared, spraying spit into Marcus’s terrified face. "You poisoned our boss and turned our family into a corporate shell game?!"

"Wait! Wait, listen to me!" Marcus shrieked, thrashing wildly as Viktor, his enforcer, reached for his own weapon near the door.

Before Viktor could clear his holster, two sharp cracks echoed through the hall. Callahan had drawn a sleek service pistol, putting two warning shots into the oak floorboards right between Viktor’s boots.

"Drop the iron, big guy," Callahan said smoothly, his weapon steady. "Unless you want your brains decorating the wallpaper."

Viktor slowly raised his hands, stepping away from his weapon.

Marcus was pinned in his chair by Frankie, his face twisted in panic, realizing that every safety net he had built over twelve years had just burned to ash in thirty seconds.

Luca walked slowly around the table, stopping right beside Marcus’s chair. He looked down at the man he had trusted like a brother, his expression devoid of anger, filled only with the cold, chilling clarity of an executioner.

"For twelve years, Marcus, I sat in that chair and watched you smile at me," Luca said softly. "I watched you pretend to mourn my paralysis while you slowly gutted everything I built. And do you know what the funniest part is?"

Marcus whimpered, shaking his head frantically. "Luca, please... we're family..."

"You forgot the one rule of the Reyes empire," Luca whispered, leaning in close until his lips were inches from Marcus’s ear. "Never underestimate what a father will do to protect his child."

Marcus froze. "What... what child?"

Luca straightened up, turning to address the assembled captains, his voice ringing out with absolute, undeniable power.

"Twelve years ago, before I was poisoned, I spent a summer with a woman named Elena Harper," Luca announced clearly, his eyes sweeping across the room. "Marcus thought he had erased every loose end. But he missed one. Yesterday, a little girl walked through a gap in the privet hedge in my backyard. Her name is Maya. She is my daughter."

Silence fell over the dining hall—a heavy, reverent silence that acknowledged the birth of a new era.

Tony Rossi slowly lowered his arms, looking at Luca with a mixture of awe and profound respect. "Your daughter, boss? You mean..."

"I mean the bloodline of the Reyes empire is secure," Luca declared, gripping his cane with both hands and standing taller, his legs refusing to buckle under the sheer weight of his triumph. "And the rot inside this house has finally been excised."

Luca looked back down at Marcus Vance, who was hyperventilating with terror.

"Callahan," Luca said quietly. "Take Marcus to the basement archives. Lock him in the dark room without a phone, without a lawyer, and without hope. Let him spend the rest of his life sitting in a chair, wondering when the hammer is finally going to fall. Exactly like he made me do."
