Chapter 7 - The Arrest at O'Hare

"She's running," Jason said, jumping up from the kitchen stool. "She's trying to flee to Zurich through O'Hare."

"Let her run," I said coldly, walking over to place a sleeping Lily gently onto Sarah’s sofa. "She won't make it past TSA."

"What do you mean?" Jason asked.

"While you were talking to Miller, I called Detective Vance from the Chicago PD cyber crimes division," I said, pulling my phone from my pocket and showing him an active police alert. "The forensic audit documents you pulled? I sent them to the federal prosecutor's office three hours ago. An international flight hold was placed on Diane's passport before she even packed her Louis Vuitton bags."

Jason stared at me, a mixture of awe and profound shame washing over his features. "You were three steps ahead of her the entire time."

"Survival makes you smart, Jason," I replied flatly. "Get your coat. Let's go watch your mother discover what happens when money can't buy the law."

Two hours later, standing behind the reinforced glass of the international departure terminal at O'Hare International Airport, we watched the finale of the Bennett empire.

Diane was screaming, her designer coat dragging across the linoleum floor, as four federal marshals slapped steel handcuffs around her wrists and led her away toward the detention wing. The cameras from local news stations flashed relentlessly, capturing the exact moment the untouchable queen of Chicago real estate fell from her throne.
