Chapter 5 - The Fall of the House of Rossi

Three weeks had passed, but inside the VIP wing of Saint Jude Hospital, time seemed to stand still.

Marcus sat by Khloe’s bed, holding her hand. Her eyes were still closed, but the monitors showed her brain activity was stable, and her breathing was entirely her own now. The doctors had slowly reduced the sedatives, hoping she would wake up soon.

"She's strong, Marcus," Arthur said, walking into the room with a fresh cup of coffee. He set it on the nightstand. "The physical therapist says her back is healing beautifully. The fracture was clean, and she won't suffer any permanent nerve damage."

"And our boy?" Marcus asked, his voice soft.

"He’s gained half a pound," Arthur smiled, a genuine warmth in his eyes. "The doctors took him off the ventilator this morning. He is breathing on his own now, Marcus. He’s a fighter, just like his mother."

A soft, weak sound came from the bed.

Marcus froze. He looked down at Khloe.

Her eyelids fluttered. She let out a low groan, her fingers twitching inside his grasp.

"Khloe..." Marcus whispered, leaning closer, his heart pounding in his chest. "Khloe, baby, can you hear me?"

Slowly, her eyes opened. The bright blue of her pupils was slightly hazy at first, but as they focused on Marcus, tears immediately welled up.

"Marcus..." her voice was a raspy, dry whisper. She tried to sit up, but a sharp pain made her gasp. "My... my baby. Marcus, where is my baby?"

"He's safe, Khloe. He's safe," Marcus said, his voice breaking with tears of absolute relief. He gently pressed his forehead against hers. "He's in the NICU. He's breathing on his own. He is beautiful, Khloe. He looks just like you."

"Is he... is he okay?" she sobbed, her hand reaching for her stomach, which was now flat and bandaged.

"He's going to be perfectly fine, baby. The doctors say he is a miracle," Marcus smiled, kissing her cheeks, her forehead, her hands. "We won, Khloe. Isabella is in prison. She’s never going to touch us again."

Khloe closed her eyes, letting out a long, shuddering breath. The nightmare that had begun in that very room was finally over.

But outside the hospital walls, the final act of destruction was being delivered.

That afternoon, the news broadcasted the official collapse of the Rossi Group. Victor Rossi had been arrested at his private estate on charges of racketeering, grand larceny, and corporate fraud. His assets had been seized by the federal government, and his name was being scrubbed from every charity board and high-society list in the country.

Isabella Rossi, facing thirty years in a federal penitentiary with no possibility of parole, had pleaded guilty to all charges in a desperate attempt to avoid a maximum sentence. But Marcus had personally ensured that the prosecutor would accept no plea deals. She would serve every single day of her sentence in a maximum-security prison.

Even Eleanor Thorne, Marcus’s mother, had been forced to step down from the board of Thorne Enterprises after her attempt to cover up Isabella's actions was leaked to the press. She had been banished to her estate in Europe, cut off from the family fortune she had valued more than her own children.

The House of Rossi was gone. The people who had believed they could destroy a billionaire's family without consequences had been ground into dust.
