Chapter 3 - The Rossi Conspiracy

The morning sun rose over the city of Houston, but it brought no warmth to the high-rise offices of Thorne Enterprises.

Marcus sat at his massive desk, his eyes bloodshot, his jaw covered in a dark shadow of stubble. He hadn't changed his clothes, but he had washed his hands and face. In front of him stood his personal attorney, Julian Vance (Arthur's younger brother), and his chief of intelligence, a former federal operative named Carter.

"The Rossi family has gone on the offensive," Carter reported, placing a thick dossier on the desk. "Victor Rossi spent the entire night calling in favors. He’s managed to get a gag order placed on the local police department regarding Isabella's arrest. No official statement has been released to the press yet."

"What about the security footage?" Marcus asked, his voice rough.

"They tried to subpoena the hospital's server," Julian explained, his expression grim. "They claimed the footage was obtained illegally and violates Isabella's right to privacy because it was a private hospital suite. But Arthur blocked them. He used his authority as a board director to classify the footage as critical medical evidence related to a criminal investigation. They can't touch it."

"But they are still spinning the narrative," Carter added, turning on the large television on the office wall.

A prominent news anchor appeared on the screen.

"...rumors are circulating this morning of a major rift within the Thorne-Rossi merger. Sources close to the Rossi family claim that Khloe Thorne, wife of billionaire Marcus Thorne, suffered a tragic fall last night during a private confrontation at Saint Jude Hospital. The sources suggest Mrs. Thorne’s mental health has been fragile, and she may have initiated a physical altercation with socialite Isabella Rossi out of jealousy. Miss Rossi is reportedly cooperating fully with a private inquiry..."

Marcus’s hand tightened around his glass of water until the glass cracked, water and ice spilling across his mahogany desk.

"They are calling my wife crazy," Marcus whispered, his eyes blazing with a terrifying light. "They are making the victim look like the aggressor."

"It's a classic Rossi tactic," Julian said. "They control the narrative until the public loses interest, then they pay off the judge and settle out of court. But they don't know we have more than just the hospital footage."

Marcus looked up. "What do you mean?"

Carter pulled out a sleek USB drive and slid it across the desk. "We’ve been monitoring the Rossi family’s financial transactions for the last six months as part of the merger due diligence. We found something Victor Rossi thought was buried forever. They are bankrupt, Marcus."

Marcus stared at the drive. "Bankrupt? The Rossi Group is valued at four billion dollars."

"On paper, yes," Carter explained. "But in reality, they’ve been running a massive Ponzi scheme, using new investor funds to pay off old debts. The merger with Thorne Enterprises wasn't a strategic alliance—it was a desperate rescue mission. Victor Rossi needed your capital to plug a two-billion-dollar hole in his offshore accounts before the federal regulators caught on next month."

Julian leaned forward. "And there’s more. We traced the IP addresses of the cyber-attacks on our logistics servers last year. They didn't come from foreign hackers, Marcus. They came from a shell company registered to Isabella Rossi's personal estate. She wasn't just trying to get close to you because she was obsessed; she was actively committing corporate espionage to devalue Thorne Enterprises so her father could buy our shares cheap."

A cold, ruthless smile spread across Marcus’s face. It was the smile that had earned him the reputation of a predator in the boardroom.

"So," Marcus said softly. "They wanted to destroy my family to save their own. They wanted to steal my company, and they tried to kill my wife and son to keep their secrets."

He stood up, walking to the floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the bustling city.

"Julian," Marcus ordered. "I want you to file a civil lawsuit against the Rossi Group for ten billion dollars, citing corporate espionage, fraud, and emotional distress. Attach the encryption keys to their offshore accounts to the filing so it becomes public record immediately. The court won't be able to seal it."

"And the criminal charges against Isabella?"

"I will personally attend her bail hearing this afternoon," Marcus said, his voice dripping with ice. "And Carter... contact every single investor in the Rossi Group. Tell them that Thorne Enterprises is pulling out of the merger, and we are shorting Rossi stock with everything we have. By the time the stock market closes today, the House of Rossi will be nothing but a memory."
