Chapter 6 - The Sun in the Room

One year later.
The spare room of the beautiful, seaside cottage in Newport was no longer empty. The walls were painted a bright, pale yellow, exactly as Aaron had envisioned it. The morning sun poured through the large windows, illuminating a room filled with toys, picture books, and a white wooden crib.
Little baby Evelyn, now a healthy, laughing one-year-old with bright dark eyes, was busy crawling across the soft rug, chasing after eight-year-old Ben, who was making silly faces to keep her entertained.
Hannah stood in the doorway, a beautiful, radiant smile on her face. Her hair had grown back into thick, healthy waves that framed her face beautifully, the small scar near her temple barely visible under the soft light. She no longer wore the black uniform of service; she wore a simple, elegant sun dress that matched the warmth of the room.
A pair of strong arms wrapped around her waist from behind, pulling her back against a broad, solid chest. Daniel rested his chin on her shoulder, his eyes fixed on the children playing in the sun.
"She really does believe the sun lives in this room," Daniel murmured, his voice full of a quiet, profound contentment.
"We all do," Hannah whispered, turning in his arms to press a soft kiss to his jaw.
The Carver name was no longer spoken in whispers of fear along the waterfront. Under Daniel’s new leadership, the family businesses had been entirely legitimized, turning the old docks into safe, thriving centers of community employment. The foundation they had established in Aaron’s name now provided free child care and medical support for every harbor worker's family in the city.

Caleb had taken over as the chief financial officer of the new, reformed Carver Shipping Corporation, his life restored and his dignity fully returned. Martin Hale had officially retired from active service, choosing instead to spend his days as a beloved grandfather figure to Ben and little Evelyn.
As the children's laughter filled the bright yellow room, Hannah looked out at the calm, blue waters of the Narragansett Bay. The nightmare of the ballroom, the cruelty of the past, and the long nights of fear were finally behind them, replaced by a legacy of love, truth, and a family that had fought through the shadows to find the light.
