Chapter 7 - The Final Gambit

The war between the Vance and Moretti families reached its absolute climax forty-eight hours later.
The capture of Moretti’s strike team inside the conservatory, combined with the interrogation of Thomas the butler, yielded a treasure trove of financial codes, secret safehouse locations, and direct evidence linking Julian Moretti to dozens of federal offenses.
In the master war room of the Vance estate, Dante, Leo, and Brielle stood around a large digital map table displaying the city's port district.
"Moretti knows his empire is collapsing," Leo reported, tapping a location on the screen. "His assets are frozen, his lieutenants are turning on him, and the federal task force is closing in. He’s liquidating his remaining bearer bonds at his private stronghold at Pier 14. He has a private yacht waiting to take him to international waters at midnight."
Dante leaned over the table, his dark eyes burning with cold resolve. "He doesn't leave this city alive. We take our entire tactical force and end this tonight."
"Dante, wait," Brielle spoke up, laying her hand on his arm.
Dante looked at her, his expression softening instantly. "Brielle, you stay here with the guards. It’s too dangerous—"
"No," Brielle interrupted firmly, looking him straight in the eyes. "Moretti expects you to launch a massive tactical assault on Pier 14. He’s set up a heavy defensive perimeter along the main access road. If you charge in with armored vehicles, it will turn into a bloodbath, and he’ll slip out on his yacht during the chaos."
Dante frowned, considering her words. "What are you suggesting?"
"A Trojan horse," Brielle said, a sharp, clever smile touching her lips. "Moretti thinks Thomas is still working for him. He doesn't know we intercepted the burner phone. We send Thomas’s transport vehicle into the pier with a 'special delivery'—a surrender offer from you, demanding a meeting to spare your family."
Leo’s eyes lit up. "While Moretti is distracted by the transport at the main gate, a small, stealth tactical unit can breach the pier from the water using silent submersibles. We cut off his escape route to the yacht before he even knows we're inside."
Dante stared at Brielle, admiration shining brightly in his dark eyes. "You have the mind of a general, my love."
"I spent years surviving by outthinking people who were bigger and stronger than me," Brielle replied softly. "And I'm coming with you."
Dante immediately went to protest, but Brielle raised her hand, stopping him before he could speak.
"I'm not sitting in a bedroom waiting for a phone call, Dante," she said, her tone absolute. "This man targeted your mother, your daughter, and me. We end this together."
Dante stared at her for a long second, seeing the unshakeable iron in her soul. He knew there was no stopping her, and deep down, he realized he was safer with her by his side than anywhere else in the world.

"Get the gear," Dante ordered Leo. "Tonight, we bury the Morettis."
