Chapter 4: The Hour of Judgment

Chapter 4: The Hour of Judgment
Isolated inside the panic room, Eleanor didn't panic. She forced herself to breathe, channeling the grief and rage of the last twenty years into absolute, razor-sharp focus.
Arthur was injured outside, and the city was three hours away from total collapse. She accessed the panic room’s auxiliary terminal. Marcus and Victor thought they had won, but they underestimated one crucial detail: the titanium signet ring on her finger wasn't just a broadcasting beacon. It was a master-key harddrive containing her father’s ultimate failsafe—a quantum decryption algorithm designed to override any system built by the Vance corporation.
She plugged the ring into the terminal. "Let's see you try to outrun a ghost, Uncle Victor," she muttered.
The algorithm tore through Victor's malware like a wildfire through dry brush. On the external monitors, she watched Marcus and his mercenaries realizing they had lost control of the system. The lights in the penthouse flickered, and the elevators—which Marcus had locked down—suddenly roared back to life under Eleanor's command.
But she didn't just call the elevator; she had called the backup tactical units she kept in absolute secrecy, known only to herself and Arthur.
The elevator doors opened, and twenty heavily armed, loyal operators flooded the penthouse. A brutal, high-stakes firefight ensued outside the panic room. Eleanor opened the titanium doors, stepping out into the fray with a tactical pistol she retrieved from the wall.
She spotted Marcus trying to flee to the rooftop helipad. Eleanor pursued him through the rain-slicked night onto the roof.
"It's over, Marcus!" she shouted over the howling wind.
Marcus turned, raising his gun, but Eleanor was faster. Two precise shots shattered his knees, bringing the traitor down to the concrete. At that exact moment, a black helicopter hovered above, and Victor Vance looked down from the open cabin door, realizing his extraction team had failed.
"You can't catch me, Eleanor! I'm leaving this country, and you'll never touch a dime of the Vance fortune!" Victor screamed over the roar of the rotors.

Eleanor raised her phone, showing him a live feed of his cryptocurrency wallets and offshore accounts draining to absolute zero. "I don't need to catch you, Victor. I've already ruined you. And the federal airspace authority just revoked your flight clearance."
Two military fighter jets streaked through the clouds, flanking the helicopter and forcing it to land right back onto the pad. Victor fell to his knees as tactical officers dragged him out of the chopper in zip-ties. The tyrant was finally in chains.
