Chapter 3: Shadows of Betrayal
The clock was ticking. With only six hours left before Victor's malware destroyed the city's infrastructure, Eleanor and Arthur faced a new, agonizing hurdle: a mole within their own ranks.
Arthur had managed to isolate a portion of the malware's source code, but what he discovered made his blood run cold. "Eleanor, the encryption key used to lock the city's systems... it didn't come from Victor. It came from an internal server. Someone passed our security protocols to him after the gala."
Eleanor felt a sharp sting of betrayal. Her tactical team was comprised of people she had trusted for years—people who swore allegiance to her father. "Who was it, Arthur?"
Before Arthur could answer, the heavy steel doors of the penthouse command center blew open with a deafening blast. Smoke filled the room, accompanied by the blinding flash of stun grenades. Through the haze, masked operatives armed with suppressed rifles poured into the room.
Arthur threw himself in front of Eleanor, drawing his weapon and firing into the smoke, dropping two attackers instantly. "Get to the safe room, Eleanor! Now!"
Among the chaos, one of Eleanor's personal bodyguards, Marcus—a man who had stood by her side since she was a child—stepped out from the smoke. He wasn't firing at the intruders. He was leading them. He pointed his weapon directly at Arthur.
"I'm sorry, Eleanor," Marcus said, his voice devoid of emotion. "Victor offered me what your father never could: absolute immunity and fifty million dollars in cold, untraceable cryptocurrency. The world belongs to the highest bidder."
"You sold your soul to a murderer," Eleanor hissed, backing up toward the reinforced panic doors.

"Business is business," Marcus replied, pulling the trigger.
Arthur lunged forward, taking the bullet meant for Eleanor in his shoulder. The distraction gave Eleanor just enough time to slam her hand onto the emergency override console. A solid three-inch titanium barrier slammed down between her and the traitors, sealing her inside the panic room, but leaving her wounded ally and her entire operation compromised.
