Chapter 6 - A New Dawn
Six months later.
The spring sun was warm over the harbor as Vanessa stood on the deck of Sterling Global’s newest flagship cargo vessel, the Hart Star. The ship was equipped with the fully integrated Sterling Flow routing system, which had officially become the industry standard, driving Vale Logistics into complete bankruptcy.
Adrien Vale had pled guilty to fraud charges and was currently serving a five-year sentence in federal prison. Camille Rosier had received a similar sentence, her career and reputation permanently destroyed.
Vanessa’s phone chimed. It was a notification from a social media app. A video of her from the night of the yacht club arrest was still trending, now captioned: “The ultimate comeback story. Never let anyone dim your light.”
She smiled and slipped her phone into her pocket. She felt a pair of warm arms wrap around her waist from behind.
Julian rested his chin on her shoulder, breathing in the scent of her hair. "The ship is cleared for its maiden voyage, EVP Hart. The board is thrilled."
"And what about the CEO?" Vanessa asked, turning in his arms to face him. She looped her arms around his neck, her mother's bracelet catching the bright afternoon sun.
"The CEO is completely captivated," Julian whispered, his eyes filled with a deep, genuine warmth. He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a small, navy velvet box.
Vanessa’s breath hitched.
Julian opened the box, revealing a stunning, ethically sourced emerald-cut diamond ring that perfectly matched her mother's bracelet.
"Seven years was a long time to wait for the right man to value you, Vanessa," Julian said, his voice soft but filled with absolute certainty. "But I promise you, for the rest of our lives, you will never have to fight a battle alone. Will you marry me?"
Vanessa looked at the ring, then up at the man who had stood by her side, respected her intellect, and loved her fiercely without ever asking her to shrink herself.
