Chapter 6 - A New Dawn

The gala was in full swing, filled with laughter, applause, and inspiring speeches from the scholarship students.
Nora stepped away from the main crowd for a moment, walking over to the floor-to-ceiling glass wall looking out over the glittering Boston skyline. The city lights reflected off the glass, blending with the warm light of the chandeliers.
Near the entrance, Denise from guest relations walked by, holding a clipboard. When she saw Nora, she gave her a respectful, admiring nod. Nora smiled back—a genuine, warm smile.
"Excuse me, Director Hayes?" a polite voice called out.
Nora turned around. A young woman in a simple black dress stood there, looking nervous, holding a clipboard and a bottle of water. She was one of the new event temps.
"Yes?" Nora asked softly.
"I'm so sorry to disturb you," the young temp said nervously, adjusting her name tag. "There was a minor stain on one of the linen tablecloths near table four. Should I replace the whole table setting?"
Nora looked at the young woman, seeing a reflection of herself from six months ago—anxious, overworked, and afraid of making a mistake in a room full of powerful people.
Nora walked over, placed a reassuring hand on the young woman's shoulder, and smiled warmly.
"It's just a stain," Nora said gently. "Tables can be wiped clean. Linens can be washed. Never let anyone in this room make you feel like a stain makes you less valuable."
The young temp breathed a visible sigh of relief, her posture straightening. "Thank you, Director Hayes."
"What's your name?" Nora asked.
"Maya," the girl replied.
"Well, Maya," Nora said, gesturing toward the main hall, "let's go fix that table together."
May you like
As Nora walked back into the brightly lit conservatory alongside Maya, surrounded by music, hope, and the laughter of fifty young women whose lives had been changed forever, she looked up at the glass ceiling.
The shadows of the past were completely gone. The rain outside had stopped, revealing a clear sky filled with stars. Nora Hayes was no longer the hired help standing in the cold. She was the leader of her own destiny, standing tall, victorious, and finally home.
