Chapter 8 - The Judgment of the Pack

Jack walked into the panic room, his presence so oppressive that Lucas instantly fell to his knees, his hands raised in absolute surrender. Jack didn't even look at him; he walked straight toward Harold, who was clutching a small silver pistol with a trembling hand.
"Don't come any closer, soldier boy!" Harold snarled, his teeth bared like a dying wolf. "Iâm Harold Graves! I control this city! You are nothing but a tool for the government!"
Jack reached out, his hand moving faster than Haroldâs brain could register. He caught Harold's wrist, twisting it slightly until the old man yelled in pain and dropped the silver gun onto the carpet. Jack didn't break his arm; he simply forced him down into his expensive leather office chair.
Jack pulled out his tactical radio and keyed the channel. "Silas, patch me through to Detective Collins."
A second later, the detective's nervous voice came through the line. "Captain Carter... please, Iâm just a guy doing his jobâ"
"Collins," Jack interrupted coldly. "I am currently in the Graves family panic room. I have full documentation of the two-million-dollar bribe Harold transferred to your offshore account to cover up the assault on my wife. If you are not at this estate with federal marshals within ten minutes to arrest Harold and Lucas for corporate racketeering, child endangerment, and attempted murder, I will release your banking logs directly to the internal affairs division."
"Iâm on my way! Iâm already outside the gates!" Collins shrieked, completely abandoning his criminal employers to save his own skin.
Jack dropped the radio onto the desk and looked down at Harold, who was breathing heavily, his chest heaving with absolute defeat.

"You thought you were untouchable because you had money, Harold," Jack said softly, his voice echoing in the quiet room. "You thought you could break my wife because I was thousands of miles away fighting a war. But you forgot that the war always comes home. You aren't a wolf, Harold. You're just a small man who hid behind a pack of cowards."
As the distant sound of federal sirens began to wail down the long driveway of the estate, Jack turned and walked out of the mansion, leaving the ruins of the Graves dynasty behind him.
