Chapter 2 - The Security Room Lockdown

The atmosphere inside the hotel's central security office was thick with tension. Evelyn refused to leave for the hospital until she knew the footage was secured, trusting the paramedics to transport Sophie under the supervision of her trusted friend, Dr. Aris, who had just arrived at the scene.
Richard and Eleanor had tried to block the police from entering the security room, offering the hotel manager a massive "corporate donation" to delete the server logs on the spot. But Officer Martinez was an old-school cop who despised entitled rich elites; he personally escorted Evelyn and a sweating, nervous Preston into the surveillance hub.
"Load the ballroom entrance feed from 8:30 PM to 9:15 PM," Officer Martinez commanded the technician sitting at the multi-monitor desk.
"Don't do this, Evelyn," Richard whispered harshly from the doorway, his eyes burning with paternal malice. "If you ruin your brother’s reputation over a domestic dispute, I will cut you off from the family trust completely. You will be left with absolutely nothing. Think about your daughter’s private school tuition."
"My daughter is bleeding in an ambulance right now because of your golden son, Father," Evelyn said without turning around. "Keep your money. I want justice."
The technician clicked his mouse, and the high-definition monitor displayed the ballroom entrance. The time-stamp read 8:54 PM. The camera angle was crystal clear, capturing the entire hallway leading to the VIP head table.
On the screen, Sophie could be seen sitting quietly at her table, swinging her feet and eating her cake, exactly as Evelyn had described. Then, the camera caught Preston walking out of the main bathroom corridor. He looked around cautiously, validating that no guests were watching him. He reached into his inner tuxedo pocket, pulled out his titanium iPhone, and slid it directly into the small pocket of Sophie's denim jacket, which was hanging off the back of her chair.
"Oh my god," the security technician whispered, covering his mouth.
The footage continued to play. Two minutes later, Preston walked up to the microphone, announced the theft, and marched directly to Sophie's chair, pulling the phone out with practiced theatrical outrage. The final segment of the video showed Evelyn stepping in front of her daughter, Preston’s face twisting into an aggressive, unhinged snarl, and then him violently swinging the heavy oak board directly into the little girl's head.
Preston collapsed backward against the security room wall, his breath escaping him in a ragged, pathetic gasp. "No... no, that angle... that’s distorted! It’s a digital glitch!"
Officer Martinez turned around, his face grim as he unclipped a pair of heavy steel handcuffs from his belt. "Preston Sterling, you are under arrest for aggravated battery of a minor, child endangerment, and filing a false police report. Hands behind your back. Now."

"Father! Do something! Call the mayor!" Preston screamed, his voice cracking like a terrified child as the cold metal clicked tightly around his wrists. "Vanessa! Call our lawyers!"
Richard stood frozen, his powerful facade completely shattered as he watched his perfect, untouchable son being dragged down the hotel hallway in handcuffs, past the very guests who had attended his million-dollar wedding.
