Chapter 7 - The True LegacyOne year later.

The grand ballroom of the Blackwood Mansion was completely filled with light, music, and the joyful chatter of hundreds of guests. The dark velvet drapes had been replaced by beautiful, airy cream silk, and the heavy family crests had been softened by beautiful arrangements of white lilies and orchids.
It was the evening of the annual Blackwood Foundation Charity Gala, but tonight was also a celebration of a new era.
Arthur Blackwood stood near the grand fireplace, looking healthy, robust, and full of vitality. He wore a sharp black tuxedo, his eyes shining with a deep, patriarchal pride as he raised a glass of champagne toward the center of the room.
"To the new CEO of Blackwood International," Arthur announced, his voice booming through the clear acoustics of the hall. "And to the man who reminded this family that our true strength doesn't lie in our bank accounts, but in our honor."
The crowd erupted into thunderous applause as Daniel and Beatrice stood together near the head table. Daniel wore a tailored tuxedo, his rugged features relaxed, a beautiful silver band glinting on his left ring finger. Beside him, Beatrice looked breathtaking in an emerald green gown, her hand resting happily over his.
Daniel looked down at his cuffs. There were no family crests on them tonight—just simple, elegant gold links that Beatrice had given him on their wedding day three months prior.
Charles Blackwood’s name had been completely erased from the corporate books, his life now spent behind the cold steel bars of a federal penitentiary. The Blackwood empire had been restructured under Daniel’s leadership, with a permanent oversight committee dedicated to ethical maritime operations and community development in the Boston harbor.
As the music shifted into a soft waltz, Daniel guided Beatrice onto the dance floor, his large hand resting securely against the small of her back.
"You’re staring," Beatrice teased softly, her hazel eyes reflecting the brilliant light of the chandeliers.
"I’m just remembering," Daniel smiled, spinning her gracefully past the drapes where their journey had begun. "I spent years investigating threats from the outside, looking for clues in the dark. I never thought the most important thing I’d find in this house would be you."

Beatrice rested her head against his shoulder, her heart fuller than any fortune could ever measure. "The perfect image of our truth," she whispered as they danced into the golden light of their new dawn.
