Chapter 5 - The Showdown at the Boardroom

The Vance Enterprises boardroom on the 50th floor of the glass skyscraper was packed to maximum capacity. The air was thick with tension, smelling of expensive coffee and old money. Richard Vance sat at the head of the massive mahogany table, flanked by the senior board members, a smug look of triumph on his weathered face.

“This emergency meeting is now in session,” Richard announced, knocking his gavel against the table. “Due to the immense public scandal and the moral failings of our current CEO, Elliot Vance, which has caused our stock to plummet four percent this week, I am moving for a vote of no confidence to strip him of his executive titles.”

The board members murmured in agreement, nodding their heads as they looked at the financial charts on the screens.

Suddenly, the heavy double doors of the boardroom burst open.

Elliot walked in, looking every bit the dominant billionaire ruler of the empire. He wore a crisp midnight-blue suit, his shoulders broad, his gaze sharp enough to freeze water. But he wasn't alone.

Walking right beside him, her hand tucked confidently into his arm, was Naomi. She looked stunning, wearing an elegant cream-colored tailored dress, her hair swept up, her posture regal and entirely unbothered by the cold stares of the elite. Behind them walked Camille and a team of top-tier corporate attorneys.

Richard’s face tightened, his eyes narrowing into slits. “Elliot, this is a closed board meeting. You cannot bring your... guests into this room.”

“I can bring whoever I want into my building, Richard,” Elliot said smoothly, walking down the length of the table and pulling out the chair at the opposite head for Naomi. He remained standing, leaning forward against the polished wood.

“You don't have the leverage anymore, son,” Richard sneered, tapping his papers. “The board cares about stability and profit. This scandal with this woman has compromised everything.”

“What scandal?” Camille stepped forward, her voice echoing with high-society authority. “Thirty minutes ago, my family’s public relations firm and Elliot’s team released a coordinated live broadcast. I explicitly stated that our annulment was planned before the wedding due to personal incompatibilities, and I have publicly welcomed Naomi Keller and her daughter into the extended family fold. The public narrative has completely flipped, Richard. Check the tickers.”

One of the board members gasped, frantically looking down at his tablet. “He’s right... the stock just rebounded. It’s up six percent! The public is calling it a 'billionaire’s fairytale romance resurrected.'”

Richard’s face turned an ugly, mottled red. He slammed his hands on the table. “This is absurd! A temporary public relations stunt doesn't change the fact that this woman is a liability!”

“The only liability in this room is you, Father,” Elliot said, his voice dropping into a lethal, quiet tone. He signaled to his attorney, who placed a thick digital drive onto the center of the table. “On this drive are recorded phone calls and wire transfers proving that Richard Vance paid a corrupt tabloid editor half a million dollars to leak confidential medical records and manufacture a smear campaign against my daughter and her mother.”

The boardroom went dead silent. The board members looked at Richard in absolute horror. Smearing a woman was one thing, but intentionally sabotaging the company’s own stock for a personal vendetta was a breach of fiduciary duty.

“You’re finished, Richard,” Elliot said, stepping up to his father’s chair. “As fifty-one percent owner of the voting shares, and with the full backing of the board who doesn't want to go to prison for your corporate espionage, I am officially stripping you of your chairman title and banishing you from Vance Enterprises permanently. Security will escort you out of the building.”

Richard looked around the room, realizing he had lost everything. His own greed and malice had dismantled his legacy. He stood up slowly, his hands shaking, and walked out of the room in total disgrace, escorted by two large guards.

Elliot turned to the board, his hand reaching out to clasp Naomi’s. “Meeting adjourned. I have a family to take care of.”
