The glass-walled office of federal prosecutor Federal Prosecutor Rachel Vance was quiet, save for the hum of a space heater and the rustle of heavy legal documents.

"We recovered approximately 1.8 million dollars of your grandmother's original two-million-dollar trust fund. The court will issue a full restitution order before the trial begins."

I took a deep breath, feeling a massive weight lift off my chest. "What about parental rights?"

"Ryan's legal team filed three separate petitions for emergency visitation over the last ninety days," Rachel replied, looking at me with deep professional respect. "Every single one was rejected by the family court judge based on his ongoing criminal proceedings and the evidence of emotional abuse you submitted. As of yesterday, his parental rights have been formally suspended indefinitely."

I closed my eyes for a brief moment, letting the relief wash over me.

My daughter was safe. My grandmother's memory was honored. The people who had tried to crush me under the weight of their arrogance were facing total financial and personal ruin.
