Chapter 5 - The War for a Future

The media was a vulture, circling the Westbrook name. Billionaire Adopts Street Child was the headline that tore through every social media platform. People argued, debated, and judged.

But then came the legal firestorm. Silas, Maya’s biological father, emerged from the shadows like a poisonous weed. He didn't want Maya; he wanted the Westbrook fortune.

The courtroom was a theater of the grotesque. Silas presented himself as a "devastated father," wearing a suit that was clearly bought for the occasion.

Elias stood in the courtroom, his jaw clenched, watching as his lawyers dismantled Silas’s claims. But it was Maya who ended it.

She walked to the stand, a small, defiant figure. She didn't shake. She took the oath and looked at her father.

"He says he loves me," Maya said to the judge, her voice carrying across the silent chamber. "But he never asked where I went when I left. He only came when he saw the news. He isn't looking for a daughter. He’s looking for a paycheck."

She rolled up her sleeve. The scar on her forearm—a jagged line from a bottle Silas had thrown years ago—was a testament that no lawyer could argue with.

The judge’s gavel hit the desk like a thunderclap. Silas was escorted out, and as he passed, he looked at Maya with a hate that should have burned her. She didn't blink. She was a Westbrook now, in spirit if not yet in name, and she was no longer afraid.
