Chapter 2 - The Fall of Victor's Castle

Inside the house, the sudden cutoff of electrical power plunged the living room into pitch darkness, save for the faint orange glow of the dying fireplace.

"What the hell is going on?!" Victor barked, setting his bourbon glass down on the wooden table so hard it spilled onto the rug. "The breaker tripped?"

Elena’s mother, Sarah, stood by the window, peering through the blinds. Her hands were shaking uncontrollably as she watched four heavily armed men in black tactical gear step onto the front lawn, setting up perimeter floodlights that illuminated the entire house like a stage.

"Victor..." Sarah whispered, her voice completely drained of color. "The cars... the emblem on the door of the lead limousine. It's the Vale crest."

Victor scoffed, walking over to the window. "What crest? Elena’s father was a deadbeat who died ten years ago! She doesn't have rich family, Sarah. Stop being paranoid!"

"No, Victor, you don't understand!" Sarah gasped, turning around with tears filling her eyes. "My father was Alexander Vale! I ran away from his family twenty years ago because I wanted a simple life! I hid the letters! I hid the trust fund!"

Victor froze, his chest heaving. "Your father is the billionaire shipping magnate? The man who owns half the private ports on the East Coast?!"

Before Sarah could answer, a loud, thunderous boom echoed through the house.

The heavy front door was kicked off its hinges, splintering into pieces as Roman and four security officers swept inside with flashlights cutting through the darkness.

"Hands where we can see them! On the floor! Now!" Roman barked, his voice echoing off the walls.

"This is private property!" Victor screamed, reaching for a heavy brass lamp on the side table. "I'll call the cops on you thugs!"

Roman moved with terrifying speed. Within two seconds, he closed the distance, grabbed Victor’s raised arm, twisted it violently behind his back, and slammed his face hard onto the hardwood floor. A loud CRACK filled the room as Victor’s nose broke against the floorboards.

"Aaargh! My nose!" Victor howled, blood pooling under his face. "Sarah, call the police!"

Sarah stood frozen against the fireplace, paralyzed by the exact same fear she had shown when Victor was beating her daughter minutes earlier.

Alexander Vale stepped through the ruined front entrance, his leather boots stepping over the broken pieces of the door. He walked with absolute authority, leaning slightly on his silver cane, his gaze sweeping over the filthy, chaotic living room until it landed on his daughter.

"Father..." Sarah choked out, falling to her knees. "Please..."

Alexander didn't even look at her. He stopped beside Victor, who was groaning in pain on the floor under Roman’s heavy boot.

Alexander raised his silver cane and pressed the heavy metal tip directly into the back of Victor’s neck, pinning him to the floor.

"You took a belt to my granddaughter," Alexander said, his tone dangerously quiet. "You threw her into the snow barefoot. You burned my letter."

May you like

"She... she was disobedient!" Victor spat through his bloodied teeth. "I'm the head of this house!"

"You are nothing," Alexander corrected softly. "And by sunrise, you will own nothing."
