Chapter 6 - The Media Storm
By Tuesday afternoon, the story broke across Nashville media.
A prominent Belle Meade socialite and her attorney son arrested for chaining a four-year-old child and bribing doctors to steal an inheritance was too explosive for news outlets to ignore.
The Nashville Post published a massive front-page article with the headline: "THE DYNASTY TRAP: Breathtaking Corruption and Child Abuse Behind Belle Meade Estate."
Channel 4 News broadcast the leaked security clip of Diane holding the dog chain, causing an explosion of public fury. Protesters gathered outside Arthur Vance’s law firm, demanding his disbarment for his role in concealing the abuse.
Arthur Vance immediately resigned from the defense team, leaving Diane and Ryan with a court-appointed public defender after all their assets were frozen by federal injunction.
I sat in Marcus Thorne’s office, watching the news broadcast on the wall-mounted television.
"They're finished, Emily," Marcus declared, setting down two court orders. "The federal prosecutor has taken over the case. Ryan and Diane are facing federal charges of conspiracy, bank fraud, child abuse, and falsification of evidence. There will be no bail. They are staying in federal custody until trial."
"What about the trust?" I asked softly.
"The federal judge signed an order today restructuring the Charles Bradley Dynasty Trust," Marcus smiled warmly. "Diane has been stripped of all custodial powers. Ryan has been permanently removed as a beneficiary due to criminal forfeiture laws. The court has appointed you—and only you—as the sole legal guardian and trustee of Noah's four-million-dollar estate."
I buried my face in my hands, letting out a long, shuddering sob. The weight that had been crushing my chest for months finally lifted.

"No, they can't," Marcus agreed. "And tomorrow, you walk into court to close the final chapter."
