Chapter 6 - The Mistress Who Sold Him FirstNathan Blackwood learned the truth about Bianca in a police interview room.

It was not romantic.

No chandeliers.

No satin.

No champagne.

Just fluorescent lights, a metal table, and a detective sliding printed bank records across the surface.

Bianca had asked for a separate attorney.

That was the first wound.

Then Nathan saw the transfers.

That was the second.

Red Harbor Consulting had not merely received money from Blackwood Holdings. It had moved portions of that money to Bianca’s private accounts before Nathan ever planned to divorce Claire.

She had been preparing her exit while encouraging his betrayal.

Detective Harris leaned back.

“Mr. Blackwood, did Ms. Vale advise you to issue the check publicly?”

Nathan said nothing.

His attorney spoke.

“My client is not answering without full review.”

The detective nodded and placed another email on the table.

Bianca’s words appeared in black and white.

Once Claire is gone, Nathan will be easy to manage. He thinks ego is strategy.

Nathan stared at it.

For a long moment, he did not blink.

Then he laughed.

Softly.

Bitterly.

Bianca had called him brilliant to his face.

Easy to manage behind his back.

The detective watched him carefully.

“People you betray tend to betray you faster.”

Nathan looked up.

“Where is Claire?”

“Safe.”

“Is she pressing charges?”

The detective’s expression did not change.

“She is cooperating with financial investigators, civil counsel, and corporate oversight authorities.”

Nathan closed his eyes.

That meant yes.

In another room, Bianca cried beautifully.

Not honestly.

Beautifully.

She dabbed beneath her eyes with a tissue while telling her attorney that Nathan manipulated her, that she did not understand corporate transfers, that she thought Red Harbor Consulting was a legitimate advisory company.

Then investigators played the audio.

Her voice filled the room.

Poor girls always take money when the room is watching.

Bianca stopped crying.

Her attorney slowly lowered his pen.

Across town, Claire sat in her father’s penthouse office while Diane reviewed emergency next steps.

Temporary executive control.

Board suspension.

Fraud preservation.

Divorce filing.

Civil asset recovery.

Protective media statement.

Claire listened without moving.

Only when Diane said “divorce filing” did her hands tremble.

Charles noticed.

Everyone noticed.

But nobody commented until the room emptied.

Then Charles sat beside his daughter.

“You loved him.”

Claire looked out at the city lights.

“Yes.”

“That does not make you foolish.”

“It feels foolish.”

“It means you were honest inside a dishonest room.”

A tear slipped down her cheek.

“I kept thinking he would remember who he was before the money.”

Charles sighed.

“Sometimes money does not change people. It removes the cost of hiding.”

Claire closed her eyes.

The words hurt because they were true.

The next morning, the Blackwood Holdings board met under emergency oversight.

Nathan’s chair remained empty.

Bianca’s advisory contract was terminated.

Every transfer she touched was frozen.

Charles offered no dramatic speech.

Claire did.

She stood at the head of the boardroom table, wearing a black suit, her lip still marked from the night before.

“For years, this company survived because people without my last name kept it alive,” she said. “Employees. Accountants. project managers. site workers. assistants. Not Nathan’s ego. Not Bianca’s social circle.”

The board sat silent.

Claire continued.

“My first act as controlling owner is to protect payroll, suspend executive bonuses, and open every project account to independent review.”

A director cleared his throat.

“And Mr. Blackwood?”

Claire looked at Nathan’s empty chair.

“He can explain himself in court.”

That afternoon, headlines broke.

BLACKWOOD HOLDINGS FROZEN AFTER GALA SCANDAL.

WIFE REVEALED AS SECRET CONTROLLING OWNER.

MISTRESS-LINKED CONSULTING FIRM UNDER FRAUD REVIEW.

Nathan saw them from the interview room.

For the first time, the empire he bragged about looked back at him from a screen he could not control.
