Chapter 5 - The Language of the Clay

With the threat of Estefanía and the Mendoza Syndicate permanently neutralized, a profound, clean silence returned to the Villarreal family.

The legal proceedings were swift and merciless. Estefanía was sentenced to twenty-five years in a federal penitentiary without the possibility of parole, while her father’s company was completely dissolved, leaving her family name entirely erased from the high-society circles of the country.

But the real victory wasn't happening in a courtroom. It was happening in the sunroom of the mansion.

Three months after the pier incident, the summer sun warmed the glass walls of the house. Elena Vance sat on the floor, surrounded by large canvasses of bright, vibrant paints. Renata sat beside her, her small hands covered in yellow and blue acrylics.

Alejandro sat at the nearby table, watching them while pretending to read a financial report.

Over the past weeks, Elena had become a regular presence, not just as a therapist, but as a trusted pillar of their daily lives. She had helped Alejandro understand how to communicate with Renata without using authority, teaching him to listen to the quiet cues his daughter gave.

Renata suddenly stood up, holding a large piece of drawing paper. She walked over to Alejandro, her little bare feet pattering softly against the floor.

Alejandro’s breath caught. He remembered the last drawing she had given him—the black windows, the child with no mouth.

He carefully took the paper from her hands.

The drawing displayed the same massive house, but this time, the windows were colored in brilliant, bright yellow, filled with smiling stick figures. In the center of the yard was a tiny girl wearing a red dress.

The girl had a giant, wide smile. And next to her was a tall man holding her hand, while a woman with long, curly brown hair—looking remarkably like Elena—held a basket of flowers beside them.

A lump formed in Alejandro's throat. He looked up at Renata, his eyes filling with tears.

"It's us, Daddy," Renata said.

Her voice was small, but it was clear, vibrant, and filled with the music of a child who was no longer afraid to speak.

"Yes, sweetheart," Alejandro choked out, pulling her into his arms, lifting her high in the air as she let out a pure, beautiful laugh that echoed through the high ceilings of the mansion. "It is us. It's beautiful."

Elena walked over, her eyes soft and warm as she looked at the father and daughter. "She’s ready for school next month, Alejandro. She’s ready to face the world."

Alejandro lowered Renata, letting her run off to show her drawing to Doña Lupita in the kitchen. He stood up, stepping closer to Elena. The billionaire who had spent his life building walls and conquering markets looked completely vulnerable.

"Thank you, Elena," he said softly, taking her hand in his. His grip was steady, warm, and filled with a promise of something new. "You didn't just heal my daughter. You healed this entire house."

Elena smiled, her fingers tangling gently with his. "You did the hard part, Alejandro. You came home early."
