Chapter 1 - The Wrath of a Sovereign

The toy box in Alejandro’s hand didn't just crack; the plastic shattered, the sharp snap echoing like a gunshot in the silent, vaulted hallway of the mansion.

Inside the room, the rhythmic tick-tick-tick of the metronome faltered. Estefanía stiffened, her posture instantly morphing from a cruel drill sergeant into a defensive socialite. Before she could even turn her head completely, the heavy oak door was kicked open with such violence that it smashed against the drywall, leaving a deep indentation.

Alejandro stepped into the room. He did not look like the polished billionaire who graced the covers of financial magazines. He looked like an apex predator whose sanctuary had been defiled. His eyes, normally a calculated grey, were bloodshot with an untamed, murderous fury.

"A-Alejandro?" Estefanía gasped, her face draining of all color. The metronome slipped from her fingers, clattering against the hardwood floor. "You... your flight—"

"Daddy!"

Renata’s tiny voice broke. The heavy dictionary slid from her head, hitting the wooden block before tumbling to the floor. The distraction caused the four-year-old to lose her balance entirely. Her exhausted, trembling leg gave out, and she began to fall backward toward the sharp edge of a marble side table.

Alejandro moved with a speed born of pure adrenaline. He crossed the distance in a single stride, diving low and catching Renata just inches before her skull could strike the stone. He pulled her tiny, shivering body against his chest. She felt weightless—frighteningly light, like a bundle of fragile twigs wrapped in silk.

"I've got you, sweetheart. Daddy's here," Alejandro rasped, his voice thick with a mixture of profound relief and devastating guilt. He tucked her head under his chin, his hand instantly registering the cold, clammy sweat on her neck.

"She dropped it, Alejandro," Estefanía stammered, her manipulative instincts desperately trying to take control of the narrative. She took a step forward, her hands raised in a placating gesture. "You don't understand the context. It's a therapeutic posture exercise. For her anxiety. Her motor skills are lagging, and I was just—"

"Shut up," Alejandro whispered.

The low volume of his voice was far more terrifying than a scream. It carried the weight of a death sentence. He slowly stood up, cradling Renata with one arm while keeping his body positioned like a shield between his daughter and his wife.

"Doña Lupita!" Alejandro roared, his voice shaking the crystal sconces on the wall.

Within three seconds, the elderly housekeeper rushed into the room, her eyes wide with terror. When she saw Alejandro holding the weeping child and the dictionary on the floor, a sob escaped her lips. She immediately dropped to her knees.

"I am sorry, Don Alejandro! I am so sorry!" Lupita wept, covering her face. "She threatened my family! She said if I told you, she would use your lawyers to frame my son for theft! She forced me to make those bitter green drinks... they were laxatives and sensory suppressants, Don Alejandro! She was starving the little angel!"

The puzzle pieces snapped together in Alejandro's mind with agonizing clarity. The black-windowed house. The little girl with no mouth. Renata wasn't drawing a fantasy; she was drawing her reality. She was a prisoner in a golden cage, stripped of her voice by a woman he had brought into their lives.

Alejandro looked at Estefanía. The glamorous facade had completely crumbled, replaced by the ugly, rat-like panic of a cornered criminal.

"You have exactly five minutes to get out of my sight," Alejandro said, his voice dropping into a register that made the air in the room feel heavy. "If you are still on this property when the clock strikes three, I will not call the police. I will handle this according to the laws of the Villarreal name. And believe me, Estefanía, you will pray for a prison cell."

"Alejandro, you can't dissolve our marriage over a misunderstanding!" she shrieked, her voice turning shrill as she realized the immense wealth, status, and luxury she had fought so hard to steal were slipping away. "We have a prenuptial agreement! I am entitled to the penthouse in Madrid, the corporate allowance—"

"Carlos!" Alejandro called out into his collar mic, ignoring her completely.

The heavy footsteps of his chief of personal security echoed down the hall. Carlos, a mountain of a man who had served Alejandro's family for two decades, stepped into the room, his hand already resting on his holster.

"Take this trash out of my house," Alejandro ordered, never looking back at Estefanía. "Strip her of every piece of jewelry, every bag, every phone bought with my funds. Throw her into the street in whatever she is wearing. If she resists, use whatever force is necessary."

"With pleasure, boss," Carlos replied, his face grim as he grabbed Estefanía’s arm in a vice grip, dragging her screaming and cursing out of the room.

Alejandro didn't listen to her cries. He knelt on the floor, wrapping both arms around Renata, who was weeping quietly into his shirt. "I am so sorry, my beautiful girl," he whispered, a single tear escaping his eye. "Daddy is back. The monster is gone. And I will never leave your side again."
