Chapter 2 - The Medical Verdict and the Corporate Guillotine

By 5:00 a.m., the Villarreal mansion had been transformed into a private medical clinic.
Dr. Silva, the family’s trusted pediatrician, stood by the bed in Renata’s pastel-colored bedroom, reviewing the results of the rapid blood panel his mobile team had conducted. Alejandro sat on the edge of the mattress, holding his daughter’s small hand while she slept peacefully, an IV drip running fluids into her dehydrated system.
"It is severe nutritional deprivation and chemical poisoning, Alejandro," Dr. Silva said, his expression grim as he handed over the digital chart. "The green drinks contained heavy doses of over-the-counter laxatives, metabolic depressants, and high-concentration herbal sedatives. Estefanía was systematically draining her body of energy to make her compliant, then using physical exhaustion exercises to break her spirit."
Alejandro’s jaw clenched so hard a muscle twitched in his cheek. "Will there be permanent damage?"
"Physically? No. We caught it in time. The IV will restore her electrolytes, and a strict, gentle diet will bring her weight back up within a month," Dr. Silva sighed, looking at the sleeping child. "But psychologically... the trauma runs deep. She has been conditioned to believe that displaying hunger, fatigue, or sadness results in severe punishment. She will need immense patience, love, and professional therapy to trust the world again."
"She will have it," Alejandro vowed, kissing Renata's knuckles. "Everything she needs. The entire world if she asks for it."
Once the doctor left, Alejandro walked down to his private study. The room was dark, illuminated only by the glow of three massive computer monitors. Sitting in the leather armchair across from his desk was Javier Vance, his ruthless corporate attorney.
"Estefanía is currently staying at a low-end motel near the airport," Javier reported, sliding a thick legal dossier across the desk. "She tried to access the corporate credit lines at 4:00 a.m., but per your instructions, I have completely frozen every account, card, and trust fund associated with her name. She has nothing but the clothes on her back and a leased vehicle that will be repossessed by noon."
"What about her family?" Alejandro asked, his voice deadpan.
"Her father’s real estate firm, Delgado Holdings, relies entirely on our logistics contracts and bank guarantees to stay afloat," Javier replied with a cold, professional smile. "If we pull our support, they go bankrupt by Friday."
"Pull it," Alejandro commanded. "Call the loans. Cancel the contracts. Inform every bank in the hemisphere that doing business with the Delgado family means permanent blacklisting by the Villarreal Group. I want them ruined. I want them to understand that the price of hurting my daughter is absolute financial annihilation."
"And the criminal aspect?"
"File the charges for child endangerment, poisoning, and aggravated abuse directly with the federal prosecutor. Do not let the local police handle it; Estefanía's uncle has connections there," Alejandro said, leaning back into the shadows. "I want a federal warrant issued before the sun sets today. I want her to see her face on every news broadcast."
"Consider it done," Javier nodded, rising from his chair. "By tonight, she won't even be able to afford a hot meal, let alone a defense attorney."
As the lawyer exited, Alejandro pulled up the security archive of the mansion on his primary monitor. For the past six months, he had trusted his wife's complaints about "corrupted files" whenever he asked to check the cameras during his business trips. Now, his cyber-security team had bypassed the overrides, revealing hundreds of hours of recorded footage.
Alejandro watched in silent, agonizing heartbreak as the screens displayed his daughter being forced to sit in the dark pantry for hours, being denied water after vomiting from the green drinks, and being scolded by Estefanía for "looking ugly like her dead mother."

Alejandro slammed his fist onto the mahogany desk, shattering the glass protector. The physical pain was nothing compared to the bleeding fire in his soul. He had built an empire worth billions, yet he had failed to protect the only kingdom that mattered.
He swore a silent oath to the memory of his late wife: I will rebuild her, Sofia. And I will destroy everyone who took her smile away.
