Chapter 6 - The Guardian’s Oath

Six months later.
Spring had arrived in full bloom across the estate. The cherry blossoms along the eastern wall shed soft pink petals over the green lawns.
The estate was no longer just a cold, fortified fortress of a crime lord; it had become a sanctuary. Holden had systematically dismantled his illegal operations over the past half-year, transitioning his empire into legal, high-end logistics and global security firms. The shadow that had hung over his name was lifted, replaced by a quiet, formidable respect.
A brand-new playground had been built in the eastern courtyard, complete with wooden swings, a slide, and a flower garden planted by Aria herself.
Aria ran across the lawn, her laughter echoing through the warm spring air as she chased a brightly colored ball.
Phantom trotted right behind her, his gait smooth, powerful, and relaxed. He was no longer the phantom monster of the underground legends—he was the immortal guardian of the Cross family's new legacy.
Holden stood on the second-floor balcony overlooking the courtyard, holding a glass of iced tea. Vance stood beside him, watching the scene below with a rare, genuine smile.
"I never thought I'd see the day," Vance remarked, shaking his head in wonder. "The killer beast of the East Courtyard... playing fetch with a seven-year-old."
"He was never a monster, Vance," Holden said softly, watching Phantom gently nudge the ball back to Aria with his snout. "He was just waiting for the right person to tell him he was safe."
Down below, Aria stopped running and sat down on the wooden bench under the cherry blossom tree. She pulled out a small piece of sausage from her pocket and offered it to Phantom.
Phantom didn't snatch it. He took it with incredible gentleness, his large dark lips barely touching her fingers. Then, he sat down right beside her, resting his massive head on her shoulder, his eyes scanning the horizon of the estate.
Aria wrapped her arms around the dog's thick neck, leaning her head against his ear.

"Thank you, Kaelen's dog," she whispered softly into his dark fur. "Thank you for keeping us safe."
Phantom gave a long, deep, contented breath, his tail thumping rhythmically against the wooden bench. The wind rustled through the pink blossoms above them, carrying away the ghosts of the past, leaving behind only the warmth of a family restored and a loyalty that would never die.
