Chapter 5 - The Siege on the Estate

Alessandro didn't panic. He stood up instantly, pulling a sleek, suppressed pistol from his waistband.

“Sophia, get in the closet,” Alessandro ordered, his voice low and absolute. “Take Emma. Do not make a sound, no matter what you hear.”

Sophia grabbed Emma, her heart pounding against her ribs as she scrambled into the deep walk-in closet, pulling the heavy wooden door shut behind them.

Alessandro stepped out into the hallway. The emergency red lights had turned on, casting a bloody, eerie glow over the long stone corridor. Two of his security guards were already in defensive positions near the staircase, their rifles raised.

The heavy glass doors at the end of the hall shattered.

Four men in tactical gear, carrying suppressed submachine guns, burst through the rain into the building. They were professionals, moving in a tight formation, but they didn't know the layout of the Duca estate.

Alessandro fired three shots in rapid succession. Two of the attackers fell instantly, their weapons clattering against the marble floor. The remaining two returned fire, their bullets chipping the plaster walls and shattering the decorative vases along the corridor.

“Flank them!” Caleb’s voice roared from the upper balcony as he descended like an avenging shadow, his shotgun firing with deafening force.

The gunfight was short, brutal, and decisive. Within three minutes, all four intruders were neutralized.

Caleb walked over to one of the fallen men, pulling off his tactical mask. He looked down, then looked up at Alessandro with a grim expression.

“They’re not mercenaries, Boss,” Caleb said, pointing to a distinct, tattooed emblem of a stylized wolf on the man’s neck. “These are Valerio’s personal security team from the New York labs. He wanted to finish the job tonight.”

Alessandro walked past the bodies, his boots splashing in the water that had blown in through the broken doors. He walked straight to the closet where Sophia and Emma were hiding.

He opened the door. Sophia was holding Emma close, her eyes wide with terror, but both of them were unharmed.

“It’s over,” Alessandro said, reaching out a hand to help Sophia up. “Valerio has played his last card. Now, we play ours.”
