Chapter 3 - A BILLIONAIRE’S CONFESSION

By noon, the story had reached every major news network.
ROSSI HEIRESS ARRESTED AFTER INCIDENT AT THORNE CHARITY GALA.
The first reports were vague.
Then Isabella’s father, Vittorio Rossi, released a statement claiming his daughter had acted in self-defense after being attacked by an “emotionally unstable woman.”
He did not mention that the woman was seven months pregnant.
He did not mention the security footage.
He did not mention that Isabella had entered the room using Celeste Thorne’s access card.
Within an hour, anonymous accounts began posting photographs of Khloe leaving prenatal clinics, crying outside restaurants and sitting alone in the back of chauffeured cars.
The captions described her as jealous, erratic and obsessed with controlling Marcus.
Someone was building a public case against her.
From his temporary office at the hospital, Marcus watched the campaign spread.
Daniel entered carrying a laptop.
“The photos came from a private investigator hired through a Rossi subsidiary.”
“They were following Khloe?”
“For at least five months.”
Marcus clenched his jaw.
“Why didn’t our security team detect it?”
Daniel was silent.
Marcus looked up.
“Say it.”
“Your mother ordered us to reduce Mrs. Thorne’s protection after she became pregnant. She said Khloe wanted privacy.”
“She lied.”
“Yes.”
Marcus stood.
“Schedule a press conference.”
Daniel blinked.
“Sir, legal counsel recommends waiting.”
“I’ve spent too long hiding behind counsel.”
“The board will not approve you discussing the affair.”
“I’m not asking the board.”
Thirty minutes later, Marcus walked into the hospital’s media room.
There were no prepared remarks on the podium.
No public-relations advisers stood behind him.
Only Daniel, Marcus’s attorney and Dr. Park, who had agreed to confirm that Khloe remained under medical care.
Camera shutters erupted.
Marcus looked directly into the central lens.
“My wife, Khloe Thorne, was violently assaulted last night while seven months pregnant.”
The room fell silent.
“The attack was captured on security footage. That footage has been provided to law enforcement.”
A reporter shouted a question about Isabella’s self-defense claim.
Marcus did not hesitate.
“The claim is false.”
Another reporter asked why Isabella had been alone with his wife.
Marcus breathed slowly.
“Because I had an affair with Isabella Rossi.”
The room exploded.
Reporters shouted over one another.
Marcus remained at the podium.
“My choices betrayed my wife and damaged my family. They also gave Isabella reason to believe she had a place in my life that she never should have had.”
His attorney shifted uncomfortably behind him.
Marcus continued.
“I will not allow my wealth, my company or my reputation to be used as weapons against Khloe. She did not cause my affair. She did not cause the assault. She is not unstable, manipulative or responsible for the cruelty shown to her.”
Across the hospital, Khloe watched the broadcast from her bed.
Naomi Grant, her attorney, stood beside the television.
“He is destroying his own public image,” Naomi said.
Khloe’s eyes remained on the screen.
“He should have protected me before the cameras arrived.”
“Yes.”
“But?”
“But men like Marcus Thorne are usually trained to deny everything until the evidence disappears. Publicly admitting fault changes the legal battlefield.”
On the screen, Marcus announced the immediate suspension of all Thorne-Rossi business dealings.
Vittorio Rossi had warned him that canceling the merger would trigger lawsuits, layoffs and a stock collapse.
Marcus did it anyway.
“I am also stepping down temporarily as chief executive while an independent investigation examines whether Thorne company resources were used to monitor or intimidate my wife.”
Khloe’s expression changed slightly.
Naomi noticed.
“That surprised you.”
“He loves that company.”
“Perhaps he is finally learning that love without sacrifice is only possession.”
The press conference ended.
Minutes later, the Thorne Group’s stock dropped eleven percent.
By evening, board members were calling Marcus reckless.
Shareholders demanded answers.
Vittorio Rossi threatened to expose private messages proving Marcus had promised Isabella a future together.
Marcus told him to release everything.
But Vittorio had another weapon.
At seven that evening, an envelope was delivered to Khloe’s room.
Naomi opened it first.
Inside was a copy of a medical authorization form bearing Khloe’s signature. The document stated that if Khloe became incapacitated during childbirth, Celeste Thorne would receive temporary authority over the newborn.
Khloe stared at it.
“I never signed that.”
Naomi examined the page.
“The signature is convincing.”
“It’s forged.”
A second document transferred management of the baby’s trust to Celeste.
A third indicated that Khloe had voluntarily agreed to enter a private psychiatric facility after delivery.
Naomi’s face hardened.
“Someone was preparing to declare you mentally unfit.”
Khloe felt cold despite the blankets.
“Isabella said I was supposed to have the baby and disappear.”
Naomi placed the documents into an evidence sleeve.
“This wasn’t just about ending your marriage.”
The door opened, and Marcus stepped inside before the nurse could stop him.
He saw the papers.
“What are those?”
Khloe looked at him.
“The plan.”
Marcus read the documents one by one.
With each page, his face became more rigid.
“My mother had these drafted?”
“We don’t know yet,” Naomi said.
Marcus examined the witness signature.
His expression changed.
“I know this name.”
“Who is it?”
“Peter Lang.”
Naomi searched her tablet.
“Your family physician?”
“No.”
Marcus stared at the forged psychiatric authorization.
“He’s the private doctor who treated my father before he died.”
Khloe’s heartbeat accelerated.
Marcus turned toward Daniel.
“Find Lang.”
Daniel stepped into the hallway to make the call.
Less than two minutes later, he returned.
“He left the country this morning.”
“Where did he go?”
“Switzerland.”
Naomi exchanged a look with Khloe.
Marcus gripped the forged papers.
Then Daniel added one more detail.
“Before his flight, Dr. Lang made a call from the airport.”
“To whom?”
May you like
Daniel looked directly at Marcus.
“To Isabella Rossi.”
