By the following week, Daniel’s desperation had reached its peak.
Having lost his company, his home, and his mistress, he turned to the only weapon he had left: public sympathy. He hired a high-priced PR consultant named Marcus Vance (no relation to Arthur) who specialized in "crisis management" and dirty legal battles.
Together, they launched a coordinated smear campaign against Claire in the local media.
An anonymous source leaked stories to several prominent Chicago gossip columns, painting Claire as an unstable, controlling wife who had used her family’s wealth to manipulate her husband for decades. They claimed she had suffered a "mental breakdown" and was holding the company hostage out of jealousy.

The Press ConferenceDaniel scheduled a press conference outside the city hall, intending to play the victim of a greedy, manipulative family. He wore a slightly worn suit to look sympathetic and held a microphone in front of a dozen local reporters.
“I only wanted what was best for my family,” Daniel said, his voice cracking with rehearsed emotion. “My wife has been struggling with personal issues for years. I tried to support her, but this hostile action against my company—a company I built with my own hands—is putting hundreds of construction workers’ livelihoods at risk. I’m pleading with her to settle this privately for the sake of our children.”
As the reporters began to shout questions, a sleek black SUV pulled up to the curb.
The door opened, and Noah and Emma stepped out, followed by Claire and Arthur Vance.
The press immediately turned their cameras toward them, the flashes blinding in the afternoon light. Daniel’s PR consultant tried to steer him away, but Daniel stood his ground, believing he could humiliate Claire on live television.
“Claire,” Daniel said, stepping toward her with an open hand. “Please. Let’s talk about this like adults.”
Emma stepped in front of her mother, holding a wireless microphone she had brought from the school’s media department. She connected it to a portable speaker Noah was carrying.
“We’re ready to talk, Dad,” Emma’s voice echoed across the plaza, clear and absolute.
She turned to the reporters, her face completely calm.
“My father is lying to you,” Emma said, looking directly into the camera lenses. “Our mother didn't have a breakdown. She didn't take over the company out of jealousy. She did it because our father was using company funds to buy luxury apartments for his mistress while accusing our hardworking housekeeper of theft. We have the bank records, the security footage, and the legal proof of his embezzlement.”
Noah stepped forward, holding up a tablet that displayed the corporate audit reports in high-definition.
“Our mother is the one who saved this company nineteen years ago,” Noah added. “She is the one who protected the workers’ pensions when our father wanted to cut them to fund his personal lifestyle. We stand with our mother. And we want the world to know the truth.”

Daniel’s PR consultant grabbed his arm and practically dragged him into a waiting car, but the damage was done. The "victim" narrative was dead, and the truth had been burned into the public consciousness forever.
