Chapter 10 - The Unbroken Vow

That night, after the guests had departed and the children were tucked safely into their beds, Elena and I walked through the quiet, sun-lit corridors of our home.
We stepped into the children's bedroom.
Matteo was fast asleep in his bed, clutching his gray stuffed elephant—the same elephant that had led me to him two years ago. In the adjacent bed, Emma lay fast asleep, holding her small wooden bunny, the silver star necklace glinting softly against her nightgown in the moonlight.
I stepped over, gently pulling the blanket higher over Emma’s shoulders, then walked over to Matteo, brushing a curl from his forehead and kissing his cheek.
Elena stood in the doorway, watching me with tears of pure happiness shining in her eyes.
I walked back to her, taking her hand in mine, and led her out onto the master balcony overlooking the tranquil lake. The night sky was clear, studded with a million brilliant stars.
"Three hundred and sixty-five days," I spoke quietly, looking out over the water. "I spent a year searching for you in the dark, Elena. I thought my life was over."
Elena turned toward me, resting her hands against my chest, looking up into my eyes with deep, unconditional love.
"And you brought us home, Dominic," she whispered. "You fought through traitors, poison, and shadows to give us a real life. You saved all of us."
I pulled her close, kissing her deeply under the starlit sky—a long, passionate kiss that carried the promise of a lifetime without fear, without secrets, and without end.

I had built an empire through strength, but I had learned that true power wasn't measured by weapons or territory. It was measured by the warmth of the home you protect, the laughter of the children you raise, and the love that holds your family together through the darkest night.
And as I held my wife in my arms, looking out over our peaceful home, I knew that the story of the Vale family was no longer written in blood—it was written in love, forever unbroken.
