Chapter 10 - The Phoenix Sings

One year later.

The Radio City Music Hall in Manhattan was sold out to absolute capacity. Six thousand people filled the iconic venue, holding glowing light-sticks, waiting for the headliner of the evening.

Behind the velvet main curtain, I stood wearing a simple, elegant dark green silk jumpsuit.

My face was completely healed, glowing under the warm backstage lights. My name—MAYA LIN—was rendered in massive silver neon letters above the main stage entrance.

Over the past twelve months, the world had changed completely.

Logan Vance had been sentenced to twenty-eight years in a federal penitentiary with no possibility of early parole. His music had been pulled from every streaming platform in the world, his assets seized, his record label liquidated to pay restitution to his victims.

Through Julian’s relentless legal brilliance, the courts had officially restored 100% of the copyright ownership of my eighty-four ghostwritten songs back to me.

My debut solo album—Out of the Ashes—had broken every single-week streaming record in music history, winning four Grammy nominations in a single evening.

A soft knock sounded on my dressing room door.

Julian Vance walked in, wearing a sharp tailored suit, carrying a single long-stemmed white lily.

He walked over to me, handing me the flower, his dark eyes filled with deep, quiet pride.

“The venue manager says there are ten thousand more fans standing out on Avenue of the Americas just listening to the sound check,” Julian said, a warm smile gracing his jawline. “You’ve officially taken over New York, Maya.”

I looked into his eyes, taking his hand in mine. Over the past year, Julian hadn't just been my legal champion—he had been my anchor, my rock, the man who had taught me that true strength wasn't about surviving abuse, but about building a life filled with dignity, passion, and genuine love.

“I couldn't have done any of it without you, Julian,” I whispered softly, leaning up on my toes.

Julian wrapped his arm gently around my waist, pulling me close, and kissed me—a deep, tender kiss that tasted of freedom, triumph, and an unshakeable future.

“Five minutes to stage, Maya!” the stage manager called out from the hallway.

Julian broke the kiss, smiling down at me. “Go show them who you are.”

I turned, taking a deep breath, and walked through the heavy velvet curtains out onto the grand stage.

The moment I stepped into the spotlight, six thousand people rose to their feet in a deafening, thunderous roar of applause. The lights flashed, the live orchestra struck the opening chords of my platinum title track, and I raised the microphone to my lips.

I looked out over the ocean of shining lights, breathing in the fresh, clean air of a life that was entirely my own. I had survived the fire, broken the chains, and reclaimed my voice. And as I sang the first high, triumphant note into the night, I knew that the story didn't end with revenge—it ended with a song that would echo forever.
