Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

Six months later, the spring flowers were blooming brilliantly across the front lawn of the house in San Bernardino. The air smelled of freshly cut grass, warm sunshine, and sweet pancakes drifting from the kitchen window.

I stood on the front porch, sipping my morning coffee, watching Skylar skip down the sidewalk toward the school bus with a bright, joyful smile on her face. She turned around, waved energetically, and shouted, "Bye, Mommy! See you after school!"

"Have a great day, sweetheart!" I called back, my heart swelling with a deep, unbreakable peace.

The legal proceedings had wrapped up swiftly. Brandon, Gertrude, and Hailey were currently facing federal indictments for identity theft, fraud, and money laundering, with trial dates set for the summer. Not a single judge bought their pathetic excuses, and the courts had formally granted me a swift, uncontested divorce along with full, unhindered custody of Skylar. Every single asset they had tried to steal was restored to my name, and the house—my father's house—was finally, securely mine alone.

The front door opened softly behind me, and a warm, comforting pair of arms wrapped gently around my waist. Marcus rested his chin on my shoulder, looking out at the sunlit street with a soft smile.

"What are you smiling about, CEO Vance?" he murmured, kissing my cheek.

"Just realizing that sometimes, you have to let the trash take itself out to finally see how bright the sun shines," I replied, leaning back into his embrace.

Inside, the kitchen was warm, bright, and filled with the delicious scent of maple syrup and laughter. There were no secrets in the dark, no stolen dignity, and no instant soup. Just a quiet, beautiful home, built on strength, resilience, and a future that belonged entirely to us.
