Chapter 8 - The Birth of Hope

Three weeks after the trial concluded, on a warm, sunlit Sunday morning, I gave birth to a healthy, beautiful seven-pound baby girl at St. Jude’s Private Hospital.

The room was filled with soft music, fresh flowers, and warm sunlight streaming through the large windows overlooking the city skyline.

Gabriel stood beside my bed, holding his tiny newborn niece in his arms with extreme care, as if she were made of the most fragile glass in the world. The formidable "Ghost of Wall Street" had tears shining in his dark eyes as the baby cooed softly, reaching out her tiny fingers to touch his thumb.

"What are you going to name her, Clara?" Gabriel asked softly, leaning down to kiss the baby's forehead.

"Hope," I answered, sitting up against the plush pillows, feeling a wave of absolute peace fill my soul. "Hope Vance."

"Hope Vance," Gabriel repeated, a brilliant, rare smile lighting up his entire face. "A strong name for a strong girl."

He gently placed Hope into my arms. I pulled my daughter close against my chest, breathing in her sweet, newborn scent, marveling at how perfect and safe she was.

She would never hear a cruel word in her home. She would never see a hand raised in anger. She would grow up surrounded by love, security, and the unyielding protection of a family that would move mountains to keep her safe.
