Chapter 8 - The Fall of an Empire

Richard lay on the floor, pinned under the boots of three tactical officers. His face was pressed against the cold glass fragments littering the concrete, his expensive suit soaked with rainwater and dirt. He screamed curses, twisting and fighting against the zip-ties being pulled tight around his wrists.

"Amelia! You bitch!" Richard shrieked as he was dragged to his feet. "You ruined my life! I'll kill you! I'll kill you!"

I walked up to him slowly, stopping just inches from his face. The man who had once pretended to be my protector now looked pathetic—a hollow shell driven mad by his own greed.

"You ruined your own life the day you decided my child’s life was worth less than a ledger balance," I said quietly, my voice icy and calm. "Enjoy the rest of your life in a maximum-security facility, Richard. You won't see a single dime of my father's empire. And you will never, ever meet my child."

The officers hauled him away into the storm, his wild screams fading into the sound of the howling wind and roaring ocean waves.

Within forty-eight hours, the media narrative shattered completely.

The tragic story of the grieving billionaire widow transformed into the biggest crime scandal of the decade. The news networks broadcasted the footage captured by Vance’s team—including the helicopter audio, the financial fraud records, and the final confession captured in the Carmel estate.

Richard’s legal defense crumbled before it even began. His lawyer, Marcus Vance, abandoned him immediately after federal prosecutors indicted Richard on twenty-seven felony counts. The offshore bank accounts were frozen, his assets were seized to pay back the stolen corporate funds, and his reputation was obliterated globally.

At Hayes Global Technologies, the board of directors held an emergency press conference. I walked onto the stage in front of hundreds of international journalists, standing tall, elegant, and victorious.

"The past few months have been a test of strength," I announced to the room, the flashes of a hundred cameras illuminating the podium. "Not just for me, but for this company. Hayes Global was built on integrity, innovation, and courage. We have eliminated the corruption from within, and today, we move forward stronger than ever."

The room erupted into thunderous applause. The stock price of Hayes Global soared to an all-time high by the closing bell.
