Chapter 9 - The Moon and the King

A year after the wedding.
The sun was setting over Oak Brook, painting the sky in deep shades of gold and violet.
In the master bedroom of the Caldwell mansion, a light breeze blew through the open French doors leading to the balcony.
Claire sat in a plush armchair near the crib, holding a two-month-old baby boy with dark hair and bright gray eyes—little Arthur Nathan Caldwell.
Nathan rolled his wheelchair into the room, carrying a cup of chamomile tea for Claire. He set it down on the nightstand and leaned over, gently kissing the top of his newborn son's soft head.
"Is he sleeping?" Nathan whispered.
"Just fell asleep," Claire smiled softly, handing the baby gently to Nathan.
Nathan held his son securely against his broad chest, his large, tattooed hand supporting the tiny infant with incredible tenderness. He looked down at Arthur, feeling a profound sense of peace that filled every corner of his heart.
Lily popped her head into the room, holding her favorite stuffed bear. "Is baby Arthur sleeping?"
"Yes, sweetie," Claire whispered, motioning for her to come over. "Come sit with us."
Lily climbed onto Nathan's lap, careful not to disturb her baby brother, resting her head against Nathan's arm.
"Mr. Nathan?" Lily asked quietly, looking up at him.
"Yes, my little moon?" Nathan answered, using the nickname he had fondly adopted for her.
"Are you happy now?"
Nathan looked at his beautiful wife sitting beside him, at his sleeping newborn son in his arm, and at his brave little daughter resting against his knee.
