Chapter 10 - The Symphony of Tomorrow

One year later.

The grand ballroom of the Varric estate was filled with the sound of a live orchestra playing a magnificent, sweeping waltz.

Hundreds of guests—politicians, legitimate business leaders, community leaders, and friends—danced beneath the glowing crystal chandeliers that once mirrored a scene of fear and tears. The white marble floor, once cold and sterile, was now filled with warmth, laughter, and floral decorations of white lilies and gold ribbons.

It was the night of Matteo and Liana’s wedding.

Liana looked like an absolute vision in a stunning off-the-shoulder lace wedding gown, her dark hair styled in an elegant updo decorated with small pearl pins. Across her finger sparkled the yellow diamond ring, alongside a simple, elegant gold wedding band.

Matteo held her close as they glided effortlessly across the polished floor, his hand resting gently on her waist. He wore a tailored black tuxedo, looking down at his bride with an expression of pure, unadulterated happiness.

"You are the most beautiful sight I have ever seen in my entire life," Matteo whispered in her ear as the music swelled around them.

Liana smiled, resting her forehead against his shoulder. "I used to stand in this exact foyer in a red uniform, thinking my life was over, Matteo. I thought love was something that belonged to other people."

"Love belonged to us all along, my sweet Liana," Matteo murmured, kissing her forehead softly. "We just had to find each other through the dark."

At the edge of the dance floor, Julian stood holding a two-year-old Nico, who was dressed in a tiny matching tuxedo, happily waving a small white flower at his parents as they danced past.

The song faded into gentle applause as Matteo took Liana’s hand, leading her out through the tall French doors onto the grand marble terrace overlooking the ocean.

The night sky was dark, clear, and filled with millions of glittering stars. The cool ocean breeze blew gently across the garden, carrying the scent of night-blooming jasmine and salt water.

Matteo stood behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist, pulling her back against his chest as they stared out at the vast, beautiful horizon.

"Look at the stars," Liana whispered softly.

"They aren't half as bright as you," Matteo smiled, resting his chin on her neck.

Liana reached down and took his large hand, gently placing it over her stomach.

Matteo froze. He felt a soft, warm bump beneath the silk of her wedding dress.

He looked down at her face, his amber eyes widening in shock and overwhelming joy. "Liana...? Is... is it...?"

Liana turned in his arms, a radiant, tearful smile gracing her lips as she nodded softly. "A baby girl, Matteo. She’s due in the winter."

Matteo gasped, a breathless, joyous laugh bursting from his chest! He pulled her into his arms, lifting her off her feet and spinning her gently around the star-lit terrace as tears of pure happiness welled in his eyes!

"A daughter..." Matteo choked out, setting her down gently, holding her face in his hands like she was the most precious treasure in the universe. "A daughter... thank you, my love. Thank you!"

He kissed her passionately under the light of the stars—a long, deep kiss that held the promise of a lifetime of peace, safety, and endless love.

Down in the gardens below, the gentle melody of the orchestra played on.
