Chapter 7 - The Shattered Facade

The room fell into an absolute, suffocating silence as the raw audio recording began to play.

CRACK!

The explosive sound of the slap echoed through the soundproof conference room with horrific clarity.

Bethany flinched as if she had been shot. Her face drained of every drop of color within two seconds.

“What did you do, Seth?!” Kallie’s recorded voice screamed.

“I disciplined her because you clearly won't.” Seth’s arrogant recorded voice echoed clearly through the mahogany room.

Seth’s smirk vanished instantly. His eyes went wide with pure terror. He dropped his pen, his mouth agape as his own voice filled the air.

“Oh, stop exaggerating, Kallie. She was about to knock over the decoration.”

“That's enough, Kallie. Stop making a scene.” Bethany’s recorded voice sneered from the speaker.

Uncle Arthur’s legal notepad slipped from his fingers. He stared at the laptop screen, then turned his head slowly to look at Bethany and Seth, his legal mind instantly calculating the catastrophic legal nightmare unfolding before his eyes.

The recording played on relentlessly:

“Children need discipline. You've spoiled her too much.”

“That's why kids grow up spoiled. Somebody had to set some boundaries.”

“Honestly, Kallie, you're ruining the party.”

Kallie paused the recording. The silence in the room was so thick you could hear the air conditioning unit humming in the ceiling.

Her father looked as though he had suffered a stroke. His hands were trembling violently on the polished wood. Megan had covered her mouth with both hands, staring at Kallie in absolute horror.

“That... that audio...” Uncle Arthur stuttered, his professional composure completely destroyed. “Where did you get that?”

“My iPad was recording on the hutch right next to the table,” Kallie stated softly. “It captured every single word, every slap, every confession, and every single second of your callous cruelty.”

“Kallie...” Bethany whimpered, her arrogant voice dissolving into a desperate, high-pitched squeak. “Kallie, sweetie... please... you can't use that...”

“I’ve already used it,” Kallie revealed, pulling a folded legal document from her purse and sliding it across the polished table toward Uncle Arthur. “Two hours ago, Detective Morales reviewed the full audio file. The San Diego District Attorney’s office has officially filed criminal child abuse charges against Seth Vance.”

Seth stood up so fast his leather chair crashed backward onto the floor. “WHAT?!”

“Furthermore,” Kallie continued, looking her mother directly in the eyes, “because you, Dad, Megan, and Seth all signed formal legal affidavits claiming Paisley fell on a chair, the District Attorney has opened a secondary investigation into felony perjury and conspiracy to obstruct justice against all of you.”
