Chapter 10 - A House Made a Home

One month later.
The autumn sun streamed brightly into the marble kitchen of Breakers Mansion, casting a warm, natural morning glow across the pristine white counters.
At the center island, Ben and Jerry were carefully frosting a chocolate birthday cake, flour dusting their cheeks, laughing as they accidentally smeared frosting on each other's noses.
Abigail stood by the sink, washing a mixing bowl, wearing her crisp black maid dress with its white lace collar and apron—not because she had to, but because it reminded her of the exact morning she walked through those iron gates and changed everything.
The heavy double doors swung open.
Pedro entered holding his briefcase, but instead of walking past toward his study, he stopped, dropped the leather case onto the floor with a dull thud, and walked straight over to the island.
He wrapped his arms around Abigail’s waist from behind, resting his chin comfortably on her shoulder as he watched the boys work.
"You're home early," Abigail smiled, leaning back into his embrace, her hands wet with soapy water.
"I realized I spent too many years letting meetings run my life," Pedro murmured softly, pressing a kiss to her temple. "From now on, my schedule belongs right here."
Ben looked up from the cake, grinning widely at his father. "Dad! Are you going to help us write 'Happy Birthday, Abigail' on the cake?"

"Only if you promise not to let me ruin the lettering," Pedro laughed—a rich, full, uninhibited sound that echoed off the marble walls and filled every corner of Breakers Mansion with warmth.
The ghost of loneliness that had haunted the estate for two years was finally gone. In its place stood a family, bound not by wealth or status, but by discipline, honesty, and an unbreakable, hard-won love.
