Chapter 1 - The Echo of Discipline

The marble floors of Breakers Mansion usually carried the cold, sterile acoustics of a corporate vault, but the sharp clink of porcelain on granite changed the atmosphere entirely. Pedro Jacobs stood frozen at the threshold of the kitchen, his briefcase heavy in his hand, his eyes locked onto the scene before him.

His twin boys, Ben and Jerry, nine years old with sandy brown hair falling into their focused faces, were standing side by side at the deep kitchen sink. Their small hands were submerged in warm, soapy water, carefully scrubbing white porcelain plates under Abigail Hill's watchful eye.

"What did you just do to my sons?" Pedro's roar shook the marble walls, his stern expression tightening as he stepped forward. For months, every caregiver had fled or broken down under the boys' grief-fueled tantrums. Seeing them working in disciplined silence felt jarring, almost threatening.

Abigail did not flinch. She remained unfazed, her black maid dress with its crisp white lace collar and apron radiating quiet authority as she guided Jerry’s hand across a soapy plate. Looking back at the billionaire with a steady, unblinking gaze, she answered calmly: "Respect begins with responsibility."

Pedro’s jaw clenched, his posture rigid as he expected the boys to shatter into tears at any second, just as they had with the ten nannies before her. Instead, Ben quietly passed a rinsed plate to the drying rack without a single word of complaint.
