Chapter 3 - The Ledger of Blood

The silence in the private club was absolute, save for the heavy, ragged breathing of K19 and the soft, peaceful breathing of the baby asleep against the boss's chest.
Leo scrolled down the screen of his phone, his jaw tightening until the muscles in his cheek twitched. The offshore transfers weren't just pocket change; they were siphoned directly from the pensions K19 had promised to secure for the syndicate members' children.
—You sold us out,— Leo said, his voice dropping into a dangerous, gravelly register. He took a slow, heavy step forward, his boots clicking against the floor. —You told us the boss was hoarding the diamond shipment for himself. But you were the one skimming the accounts. You were the one planning to skip the country.—
K19 thrashed beneath the war dog, his face twisted in desperation. —Don't be fools! If he stays in power, we all hang! The feds are closing in! The child is just a prop to gain your sympathy!—
—Shut your mouth,— Leo snarled, lunging forward and planting the heel of his boot right next to K19’s uninjured hand, stopping just short of crushing his fingers. —You stole from our families. You used our loyalty as a shield for your cowardice. And worst of all... you made us point our guns at the man who gave us a home when we had nothing.—
The other enforcers closed in around the fallen traitor, forming a tight, inescapable human wall. The confusion and fear that K19 had sown among them earlier in the evening had evaporated, replaced by a cold, unified fury. In the underworld, betrayal was the ultimate sin, but stealing from the families of your brothers was a death sentence written in fire.
The boss stood back, watching the scene unfold with an expressionless face. He didn't lift a finger to stop them. A true king doesn't need to dirty his hands when his pack is hungry for justice.
He gently adjusted the wool blanket around the baby, ensuring the infant's face remained shielded from the ugly reality of the room. The baby shifted slightly, letting out a soft sigh, completely unaware that it was resting against the chest of the most powerful man in the city while a traitor's empire crumbled to dust around them.
—What do we do with him, Boss?— Leo asked, looking back over his shoulder, his eyes hard as flint. —Do we hand him to the feds? Or do we handle it the old way?—
The boss looked down at K19, who was now weeping softly, his arrogance entirely shattered, reduced to a pathetic shell of a man begging for mercy.
—The feds want names, numbers, and decades of paperwork,— the boss said quietly, his voice cutting through the tension like a razor. —Ghost has already uploaded the complete hard drive of K19’s offshore accounts and communications to every federal terminal from here to Washington. By sunrise, the authorities won't need to look for him—they'll be hunting him across three continents.—
K19’s face turned the color of ash. —No... no, you can't do that! They'll lock me away for the rest of my life! Just kill me here! Please!—
—Killing you here would be too merciful,— the boss replied coldly. —You don't get a clean death, K19. You get to watch everything you built, everything you stole, get ripped away piece by piece. You get to spend every remaining day of your life looking over your shoulder in a concrete box, wondering which of your cellmates was paid off by the syndicate to finish what my dog started.—
May you like
With a sharp whistle from the boss, the war dog lifted its heavy paw from K19’s chest. The beast didn't attack; it simply stepped back, standing tall and proud beside its master, its golden eyes never leaving the trembling traitor.
Leo and two other enforcers hauled K19 up by his arms, dragging him kicking and screaming toward the heavy steel doors at the back of the club.
