Chapter 9 - The Sanctuary of Light

Six months later.
The bright summer sun shone brightly over the green hills surrounding the Valenti Estate.
Where the old, dark security gates once stood, a beautiful carved stone sign now welcomed visitors: The Orion & Sofia Valenti Wildlife & Animal Rescue Center.
The opening ceremony was a massive success. Hundreds of local families, veterinarians, community leaders, and rescued animals filled the sunny courtyard.
Iris stood on the stage, wearing a lovely yellow summer dress, holding a microphone.
"Today, we open a place where no animal will ever be abandoned, hurt, or left in the dark," Iris announced to the cheering crowd. "A place built on love, second chances, and unconditional loyalty."
Beside her, Enzo stood proudly, wearing a navy suit, his hand resting gently on the small of her back. His face was full of warmth, completely transformed from the dark mob boss he had once been.
And sitting right at the front of the stage was Orion. His blind eyes blinked happily in the warm sun, his broad chest decorated with a blue ribbon honoring him as the chief mascot and guardian of the center.
Children ran up to pet him, and the massive Cane Corso leaned his heavy head into their small hands with absolute gentleness, his tail wagging steadily.
After the speech, Enzo led Iris away from the crowd, taking her hand as they walked along a quiet, tree-lined path toward the ocean overlook on the cliff.
"You did it, Dr. Valenti," Enzo said warmly, smiling down at her. "You built something truly extraordinary."
"We built it together, Enzo," Iris corrected him softly, resting her head against his shoulder as they looked out over the sparkling blue sea.
Enzo reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small, plush dog bed toy, tossing it across the grass. Orion went bounding after it, using his nose to track the toy, barking joyfully as he caught it in the soft grass.
Enzo wrapped his arms around Iris’s waist from behind, pulling her close against his chest.
"I have one more surprise for you, my love," Enzo whispered into her ear.
"Another surprise?" Iris laughed, turning in his arms. "Enzo, you've already built an entire hospital for me!"
Enzo smiled, placing his hand gently over her stomach. "Our personal physician in the city called this morning with your lab results."

Iris’s eyes widened, tears of sudden, overwhelmed joy springing into her eyes. "Enzo... are you saying...?"
"We're going to have a baby, Iris," Enzo whispered, his voice trembling with profound emotion as he kissed her lips deeply under the warm summer sunlight. "A new generation of Valenti... born into the light."
