Chapter 6 - The Agreement

The quiet in the office stretched long into the night.
Iris looked at Enzo kneeling before her—a man feared by entire cities, a man who commanded an underground empire, sitting humbly on the floor of a rural veterinary clinic, offering her his world.
"Enzo," Iris whispered, her mind racing. "We come from two completely different worlds. I'm a vet. I treat animals. You... you rule an empire built on shadows."
"I am turning those shadows into light, Iris," Enzo promised, his dark eyes shining with absolute honesty. "Since Sofia died, I have been divesting our family from illegal operations. My shipping yards, real estate, and foundations are eighty percent legitimate now. But my enemies want to pull us back into the mud. With you by my side as my legal wife, my estate is locked forever. They cannot touch me, and they cannot touch you."
Iris looked down at Orion, who nudged his head gently against her arm, as if giving his silent blessing.
She looked back at Enzo. In his eyes, she saw no deception, no cruelty—only deep respect, lonely pain, and a budding, profound affection that mirrored the warmth growing in her own heart over the past week.
"If I agree," Iris said firmly, setting conditions, "I keep my clinic. I continue treating my patients. And no blood is shed in my name."
Enzo raised her hand to his lips, pressing a soft, respectful kiss to her knuckles. "Your clinic will be expanded into a state-of-the-art animal hospital, Director Cantrell. And you will be the queen of my estate. Your word will be law."
"Then I accept, Enzo," Iris said softly, a genuine smile breaking across her face. "I will be your wife."
Three days later, a private ceremony took place in the grand conservatory of Enzo’s private estate on the cliffs overlooking the ocean.
Iris wore a stunning, simple white silk gown. Enzo wore a dark tailored tuxedo. Orion stood right beside them as the ring-bearer, wearing a silk collar with two platinum bands attached to it.
Before a small group of loyal Valenti allies and a civil judge, Enzo placed a brilliant diamond ring on Iris’s finger.

"With this ring," Enzo vowed, his voice steady and full of emotion, "I give you my honor, my protection, and my heart for as long as I live."
"And I accept them all," Iris replied, kissing her new husband under the golden sunlight streaming through the glass roof.
