Chapter 10 - The Light We Choose

Five years later.
The golden afternoon sun cast long, peaceful shadows across the manicured lawn of the Valenti estate.
Laughter echoed near the flower gardens. A four-year-old girl with bright dark eyes and curly brown hair was running across the grass, holding a small wooden stick.
"Catch me, Orion! Catch me!" little Sofia Valenti giggled, her tiny feet pitter-pattering on the soft ground.
Trotting right behind her, moving with gentle, careful steps, was Orion. He was older now, his muzzle frosted with grey fur, but his spirit was as strong and protective as ever. He kept his shoulder just inches from the little girl, making sure she didn't stumble near the garden stones.
On the terrace, Iris sat in a comfortable wicker chair, sipping fresh iced tea, her laptop open as she reviewed applications for veterinary scholarships sponsored by their foundation.
Enzo walked out onto the terrace, carrying two fresh plates of fruits and pastries. He set them down on the table, leaned down, and kissed Iris softly on the lips.
"How are the scholarship reviews going, my queen?" Enzo asked softly, sitting beside her, taking her hand in his.
"Wonderful," Iris smiled, looking out at their daughter playing on the lawn. "We're funding thirty new veterinary students this year."
Enzo looked out across his estate—at his happy daughter, his thriving wife, and the loyal blind dog who had brought them all together on a freezing winter night five years ago.
The blood, the syndicate wars, and the shadows of the past were completely gone, replaced by a life of peace, purpose, and deep, enduring love.
Orion gently brought the wooden stick back to little Sofia, laying it at her feet, before letting out a soft, contented bark.

Iris leaned her head against Enzo’s shoulder, holding his hand tight as they watched their family under the warm, unbroken sunlight of a beautiful afternoon.
The storm had long since passed, and in its place, love had built a home that would last forever.
