Chapter 10 - The Master of the House

The transition was swift, brutal, and entirely invisible to the outside world.

By midnight, Victor Vance’s private jet was airborne once more—flying back toward Zurich empty, carrying only four shaken security guards and a handwritten letter addressed to the Swiss banking board, signed in black fountain pen by Damon Blackwell. The terms were simple: cut ties with the Caldwell syndicate, forfeit all regional European shipping dividends to the Blackwell foundation, and never set foot in North America again.

Back inside the master suite, the house was profoundly quiet.

Kate sat by the window, watching the moonlight reflect off the snow-covered gardens. The door opened softly, and footsteps crossed the plush carpet.

Damon walked over, standing beside her chair. He had removed his suit jacket, rolling up his sleeves once more. He looked tired, the faint lines of stress around his eyes betraying the immense weight of the empire he carried on his shoulders every single day.

Kate reached out, placing her hand gently over his calloused fingers.

"Is it over?" she asked softly.

Damon looked down at her hand, his expression softening instantly. He turned his palm over, intertwining his fingers with hers.

"It’s over," Damon murmured. "Victor is on a plane back to Europe. The Swiss board has dissolved their partnership with the Caldwells. No one will ever hurt you or your mother again. You have my word."

Kate smiled, a deep, radiant peace washing over her. She stood up, wrapping her arms around his waist and pressing her cheek against his chest. For a man who ruled the dark, his heart beat with a steady, grounding rhythm that made her feel invincible.

"You didn't have to burn down half the criminal underworld for a maid, Damon," she whispered against his shirt.

Damon wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close, resting his chin on the top of her dark hair.

"You were never just a maid, Kate," he whispered back into the quiet night. "You were the only person in this house who ever made it feel like a home."

Downstairs, the grand ballroom was dark and silent, the crystal chandeliers sleeping beneath the starlight. But upstairs, in the heart of the Blackwell estate, the master of the house had finally found his peace. And no power on earth would ever take it away.
