Chapter 6 - A Promise of Forever

Two months later.
The early summer sun danced on the blue waters of Narragansett Bay, warming the manicured lawns of the Carver estate. The dark clouds that had hung over the mansion for so long had finally cleared.
Claire and Arthur Whitlock were awaiting trial behind bars, their names disgraced and their fortune seized to pay back the stolen millions. Caleb, now fully recovered and sporting a healthy color, had accepted a senior auditor position at the Carver Group—this time, working directly under Daniel.
On the veranda overlooking the ocean, a small, elegant white cradle swayed gently in the breeze.
Hannah sat in a rocking chair nearby, dressed in a beautiful, flowing cream-colored dress. Her hair had grown into a lovely, chic lob that framed her radiant face. She looked down at the sleeping baby girl in her arms—little Hope, born healthy and full of life just two weeks prior.
A pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped around Hannah’s shoulders from behind. Daniel leaned down, kissing her temple, his breath warm against her skin.
"She has your eyes," Daniel whispered, looking down at the baby. "And your stubborn strength."
"Let's hope she doesn't inherit my habit of cleaning libraries to find secrets," Hannah teased, leaning back into his chest.
Daniel laughed, a rich, happy sound. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small, velvet box. He knelt beside her chair, opening it to reveal a stunning, flawless emerald ring surrounded by delicate diamonds.
"Hannah," Daniel said, his eyes filled with an intense, unwavering devotion. "You came into my life in the darkest way, but you brought the light back into this house. You showed me what it means to fight for the people you love. I don't want another day to pass without you as my wife. Will you marry me?"
Tears of pure happiness welled in Hannah’s eyes. She looked at her brother Caleb, who was waving at them from the garden lawn, and then down at their beautiful daughter.

"Yes, Daniel," she whispered, sliding her hand into his. "A thousand times, yes."
As Daniel slipped the ring onto her finger and leaned in to kiss her, the baby let out a soft, contented coo. The dark winter of their lives was gone, replaced by the warmth of a new beginning, built on truth, justice, and an unbreakable love.
