Chapter 5 - The Rescue

The arrest of Arthur Whitlock was a media sensation, but for Hannah, the victory was hollow without her brother.
With Arthur in custody, Daniel’s security team put immense pressure on the Whitlocks' head of security. By midnight, under the threat of federal kidnapping charges, the man cracked. He gave them an address—an abandoned warehouse near the industrial docks of Narragansett.
Despite Daniel’s pleas for her to stay at the estate, Hannah refused. "He's my brother, Daniel. I survived months of humiliation just to find him. I am not staying behind now."
Understanding her stubborn love, Daniel agreed, but only if she stayed in the armored SUV with his personal security detail while he went inside with the police.
The warehouse was dark, smelling of rust and sea salt. Hannah watched from the tinted window of the SUV, her hands clasped tightly over her belly, praying silently. The flashing red and blue lights of the police cruisers painted the wet pavement in eerie colors.
After fifteen agonizing minutes, the warehouse doors swung open.
Two police officers emerged, supporting a thin, pale man between them. He was dirty, his clothes torn, but he was breathing.
"Caleb!" Hannah gasped.
She threw open the car door, ignoring the security guard's protests. She ran across the wet asphalt, her heart screaming with joy.
Caleb looked up, squinting against the police lights. When he saw her, his eyes filled with tears. "Hannah... oh my god, Hannah..."
They collapsed into each other’s arms. Hannah held him tight, feeling his prominent ribs, crying tears of absolute relief.
"I'm sorry," Caleb sobbed into her shoulder. "I tried to protect you. I told you to stay away."
"You're safe now," Hannah wept, kissing his cheek. "We're both safe."

Daniel stepped out of the warehouse, his hands in his pockets, watching the reunion with a soft, genuine smile that transformed his usually stern face. He walked over, wrapping his arm around Hannah’s shoulders, pulling both siblings into his protective warmth.
"It’s over, Caleb," Daniel said gently. "You're going to the hospital, and then you're coming home."
