Chapter 9 - A New Dawn

The morning sun rose over Greenwich, casting a brilliant, golden glow across the snow-covered lawns of the Vance estate. The shattered glass in the foyer had been completely replaced, the security systems upgraded to military-grade encryption, and the federal investigators had packed up their files.
Inside the grand dining room, a table had been set for breakfast. But instead of formal silver trays and untouchable formality, the table was covered with plates of fresh, warm, rabbit-shaped pancakes, bowls of fresh fruit, and steaming hot chocolate.
Adrien Vance sat at the head of the table. He wore a crisp white dress shirt, his sleeves rolled up, a small bandage over his eyebrow—the only physical reminder of the night before.
Marcus Vance and the conspiratorial board members were gone—arrested by federal authorities at dawn, their shares frozen under emergency federal investigation. Vance Global Holdings was safe, its corporate integrity restored through an unyielding display of strength and transparency.
The double doors of the dining room opened.
Lily walked in, wearing her favorite yellow dress, holding hands with Cora Bennett. Cora was wearing her familiar cotton apron, her white hair neatly pinned back, her posture proud and serene.
Adrien stood up from his chair. He didn't wait for protocol. He walked around the table, knelt down in front of his daughter, and then stood up to face the seventy-two-year-old cook.
Cora looked down, her hands instinctively smoothing her apron. “Mr. Vance, I suppose after last night, you’ll be wanting a real, professional security team and a quiet retirement package for me.”
Adrien reached out. He didn’t shake her hand. Instead, the billionaire pulled the elderly woman into a warm, deeply respectful embrace.
Cora froze in sheer astonishment, before slowly wrapping her arms around his broad shoulders.
“Retirement?” Adrien pulled back, a genuine, radiant smile touching his face for the first time in years. “Cora, Vance Global Holdings just survived its biggest corporate hostile takeover because of your instincts. And my daughter survived because of your heart.”
Lily ran forward, grabbing both of their hands and pulling them down into a messy, group hug right in the middle of the grand dining room.
“Does this mean Miss Cora stays forever?” Lily asked, looking up with hopeful blue eyes.
Adrien looked down at his daughter, then at the woman who had held their family together through every storm.

“Forever,” Adrien said softly. “She’s not just the cook anymore. She family.”
And in the warm, sunlit heart of the Vance estate, love had finally found its proper rank.
