Chapter 7 - The Trial of Pinecrest

Three months later.

The state supreme courtroom in downtown Seattle was packed to capacity with news reporters, corporate attorneys, and public spectators.

Today was the final sentencing hearing for Victoria Warren and her co-conspirators.

I sat in the front row of the gallery, wearing a tailored charcoal suit. Sitting beside me was Jocelyn Cooper, holding my legal team’s financial dossier, and my chief security officer, Marcus.

At the defense table sat Victoria Warren, dressed in a plain orange prison jumpsuit, handcuffed at her wrists and ankles. Her former arrogance was completely gone, replaced by a hollow, broken posture.

The judge, Honorable Judge Miller, slammed his gavel three times, bringing the courtroom to absolute order.

"In the matter of the State versus Victoria Warren," Judge Miller announced, his stern voice echoing off the wood-paneled walls. "The defendant has been convicted on all counts: grand conspiracy, corporate embezzlement of forty-two million dollars, kidnapping of an infant, attempted murder, and arson."

Judge Miller looked down at Victoria with severe disappointment.

"Mrs. Warren, your actions demonstrated a complete lack of human morality, driven solely by greed and malice against innocent children and family members. This court sentences you to forty-five years in state prison without the possibility of parole."

Victoria bowed her head silently, offering no statement as two armed bailiffs led her out through the side doors in heavy chains.

Outside the courthouse, dozens of reporters and news cameras rushed toward us as I walked down the marble steps with Jocelyn and our legal team.

"Mr. Warren! Mr. Warren!" a senior reporter shouted, holding a microphone. "How does it feel to have cleared your family's name after thirty years of secrets?!"

I stopped on the steps, looking directly into the news cameras.

"My father made mistakes thirty years ago by keeping quiet," I said clearly. "Secrets destroyed my family for a generation. But today, the truth has restored us. The forty-two million dollars recovered from Victoria's offshore accounts will be completely placed into The Clara Knox Children's Foundation—a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing homeless and abandoned children across the state."

The press corps burst into applause as I stepped into my vehicle, leaving the dark legacy of the Warren mansion behind forever.
