Chapter 10 - The Unbreakable Circle

The afternoon sun beamed brightly over the party as dozens of friends, neighbors, foundation staff, and families gathered around the grand garden table.
Florence Knox sat at the head of the table in a comfortable armchair, looking happier and healthier than she had in thirty years. Beside her sat Detective Vance—now retired from the police force and serving as the Chief Director of Security for our foundation—laughing as he shared stories with Mrs. Mabel.
I stood at the end of the table with Jocelyn, holding baby Dexter in my arms, while Charlee stood right beside us holding the cake server.
A large, three-tiered chocolate cake sat in the center of the table, topped with three glowing yellow candles.
"Alright, Dexter!" I said, leaning down so my three-year-old son could reach the candles. "Make a big wish!"
Dexter clapped his little hands together, took a deep breath, and blew out all three candles with one big puff, making everyone at the table burst into cheers and applause!
"Yay, Dexter!" Charlee cheered, hugging her little brother tightly and kissing his cheek.
Jocelyn leaned in, her eyes shining with tears of absolute happiness, and kissed my lips softly amidst the applause of our friends and family.
I looked around the table at every face surrounding me.
Ten years ago, I was a bitter, lonely billionaire living in a quiet, empty mansion, convinced that my medical diagnosis meant I would live and die alone, leaving behind nothing but corporate assets.
I had believed that building high walls was the only way to protect myself from pain.
I was wrong.
A soaking-wet little girl named Charlee had broken down those walls in a single morning, bringing me a son I didn't know I had, revealing a sister I had never met, and giving me a family I had spent my whole life secretly searching for.
As night began to fall over Pinecrest Heights, lantern lights flickered to life throughout the trees, illuminating the gardens in a warm, magical glow.
I walked over to the edge of the lawn, looking up at the clear, star-filled night sky, holding Jocelyn's hand while Dexter slept comfortably in his stroller nearby and Charlee sat beside Florence reading a book.

The secrets were gone. The betrayals were buried.
And for the first time in my life, I knew that no matter what storms might come in the future... our family would always stand together, unbroken, forever.
