Chapter 10 - The Family Romano

Six months later, on a breathtaking autumn afternoon, the church bells of Federal Hill rang out in a glorious, triumphant melody that echoed across the entire city of Providence.
The grand cathedral at the top of the hill was filled to capacity. Every seat was occupied by people from all walks of life — dockworkers in their finest suits, powerful politicians, grand socialites, and the loyal men of the Romano syndicate, all gathered to witness the wedding of the century.
At the front of the altar stood Allessandro Romano, looking magnificent in a tailored black morning suit, his dark eyes glowing with a calm, absolute peace. Beside him stood Marco, wearing a broad grin, holding the ring cushion.
The heavy oak doors of the cathedral opened wide.
First came Emma, seven years old, looking like an angel in a white lace dress with a soft pink sash. She walked down the long, carpeted aisle throwing red rose petals from a silver basket, her small face beaming with immense pride. Tucked safely in her pocket was the heavy gold pocket watch Allessandro had given her.
And then, walking arm-in-arm with Dr. Arnaldi, came Maria.
The entire church held its breath. She was a vision of timeless, breathtaking elegance. Her white satin wedding gown flowed around her like cream, decorated with intricate silver lace that shimmered under the stained-glass windows. A long, delicate veil framed her dark, radiant face, and her hands held a bouquet of fresh white roses and lavender.
As she reached the altar, Allessandro stepped forward, taking her hand from Dr. Arnaldi. His fingers tightened around hers with a gentle, reassuring warmth.
The priest began the sacred ceremony, his voice echoing through the quiet, holy space.
"Allessandro Romano," the priest spoke, "do you take Maria Rossi to be your lawful wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do you part?"
Allessandro looked deeply into Maria’s tear-filled, radiant eyes.
"I do," Allessandro declared, his voice ringing strong, clear, and absolute through the cathedral.
"And do you, Maria Rossi, take Allessandro Romano to be your lawful wedded husband..."
"I do," Maria said softly, her voice filled with a love that illuminated the entire room.
"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the priest smiled warmly. "You may kiss the bride."
Allessandro lifted the soft lace veil, framing Maria’s face in his hands, and kissed his wife with a deep, reverent tenderness that drew a joyous cheer from the entire congregation.
Marco clapped loudly, while the syndicate lieutenants cheered at the top of their lungs, filled with genuine happiness for the man who had brought peace and honour back to their territory.
When they parted, Allessandro reached down and lifted Emma into his arm, holding her close between himself and Maria.
Together, as one unified family, they turned to face the cheering crowd.
They walked out of the cathedral into the warm, bright autumn sunlight. The autumn leaves drifted down from the tall trees like gold coins, covering the stone steps in a brilliant carpet of color.
Sitting in his private car, holding his beautiful wife's hand while Emma rested her head against his shoulder, Allessandro looked out over the city he ruled.

He was no longer a cold, lonely king ruling from a fortress of stone. He was a husband, a father, and a man whose life had been saved not by guns or money, but by the quiet courage of a child and the transformative power of love.
And as the car drove through the iron gates of the Romano estate, bathed in the golden light of the setting sun, Allessandro knew that the dark days were gone forever — and their story had only just begun.
