Chapter 2 - The Silent Coup

The dining hall, once a place of opulence, now felt like a courtroom. The silence was absolute, broken only by the frantic tapping of smartphones as board members received the notification.
Damian’s phone buzzed incessantly—margin calls, panicked texts from investors, and inquiries from the press. His face was a mask of controlled fury, but his eyes betrayed a flicker of genuine fear. He looked at Isabella, who stood poised, holding the silver key as if it were a scepter.
"This is a hostile takeover," Damian hissed, his voice dangerously low. "You’ve been planning this for years. The marriage, the silence, the 'retrieving of documents'—it was all a setup."
Isabella didn't flinch. "Damian, I didn't come here to destroy your legacy. I came here because your father's reckless expansion into the offshore markets—the very ones you approved last month—triggered a clause in your grandfather's original trust. Cross Holdings is technically bankrupt. My family’s trust is the only entity with the liquidity to cover your debts."
Vanessa, ever the opportunist, stood up. "We don't have to accept this! We can challenge the trust in court. Mr. Aldridge is just a relic from a bygone era."
Mr. Aldridge stepped forward, his eyes sharp. "I assure you, Ms. Hale, the legal foundation of this transfer is impenetrable. If you challenge it, the public will learn exactly why the vault was empty: you were embezzling funds to cover your own private failures."

Evelyn gasped, clutching her pearls. "You knew?" she whispered, looking at Isabella.
Isabella turned toward the door. "I knew everything. And tonight, I’m taking control."
