Chapter 1 - The Audio That Shattered a Dynasty

The audio played through the small phone speaker, crackling slightly but horrifyingly clear.
Daniel sat on the hospital floor, his back pressed against the wall, holding Sarah’s phone with trembling hands. Beside him, the paramedics were carefully loading Sarah onto a stretcher. She was pale, drifting in and out of consciousness, her hand still instinctively guarding her seven-month-pregnant belly.
The recording began with the heavy, echoing thud of Sarah’s footsteps on the wooden stairs, followed by the sudden, aggressive rustle of a struggle.
"What are you doing here, Sarah?" Jason’s voice sneered from the speaker, sharp and dripping with venom. "You think you can just crawl back into this house and take what’s ours? You’re a parasite."
"Jason, stop! I just came to get my mother’s old baby clothes!" Sarah’s voice gasped on the tape. "Please, let me go—"
A sickening thud echoed on the recording—the sound of the violent shove—followed by Sarah’s terrifying scream and a cascade of crashing wood.
Then came the silence, broken only by Sarah’s soft, agonized whimpering at the bottom of the stairs. And then, the most chilling part of the recording played.
"Look at her," their father’s voice, Richard, drifted down from the landing, flat and completely devoid of human emotion. "Wasting her breath. Just like her mother did. Let her lie there, Jason. If she loses the baby, it saves us the trouble of a custody fight for the trust."
"Should we call an ambulance, Dad?" Jason asked, his voice filled with a sickening chuckle.
"No," Richard replied coldly. "Let her husband find her. By then, it’ll look like a clumsy accident. The staircase has always been steep. Clean up the landing and let’s go."
The recording clicked off.
Daniel felt the blood in his veins turn to pure ice. For three years of marriage, Richard and Jason had treated Sarah like an outcast, telling her she was "weak," "clumsy," and "undeserving of the family name." They had convinced the world that Sarah was mentally unstable, driving a wedge between her and her childhood friends.
But this wasn't just a family dispute. This was a calculated, attempted murder of his wife and their unborn child. And the mention of a "trust" pointed to a dark, hidden truth they had spent decades concealing.
"Sir?" the lead paramedic called out, pulling Daniel back to reality. "We’ve stabilized her blood pressure, but she’s in pre-term labor due to the trauma. We need to get her to the university hospital immediately."

"I'm coming," Daniel said, his voice dropping into a deadly, quiet register. He stood up, slipping Sarah’s phone into his inner coat pocket. He looked back at the empty, silent mansion of the family he had once respected.
They had no idea that the quiet, gentle girl they had pushed down the stairs had just handed him the weapon to destroy them.
