Chapter 6 - Above the Clouds

Later that evening, after the gala had concluded and the guests had departed, Marcus walked up to his forty-second-floor office. The city lights outside burned like a constellation of stars against the night sky.
A gentle knock sounded at his open door. Marcus turned to see Sarah holding Lily by the hand.
"Someone wanted to see your office before we went home," Sarah smiled.
"Come on in," Marcus said warmly, welcoming them into the massive room.
Lily walked wide-eyed toward the giant floor-to-ceiling windows, pressing her small hands against the cool glass. She looked down at the glittering city below, then looked up at the moon hanging gracefully in the dark sky.
"Wow," Lily whispered in awe. "We really are in the clouds, Mommy."
Marcus walked over and knelt beside the little girl, looking out at the view that had once felt so lonely to him. Now, looking at it through her eyes, it felt warm, full of life and infinite possibilities.
"It's a nice view, isn't it, Lily?" Marcus asked gently.
Lily turned to him, her big brown eyes shining with pure, innocent joy. She reached out and gave Marcus a warm hug around his neck.

"It's the best view in the whole world," Lily said softly. "Because from up here, you can see everyone who needs a little help."
Marcus held the young girl tight, tears of quiet happiness filling his eyes. The cold executive who had once sat behind a desk ready to destroy a family was gone forever. In his place stood a man who had found his purpose, his heart, and a family he would protect for the rest of his days—all because a little girl answered the phone.
